Local organic farms abound, and the train ride into Shimabara is like a step back in time. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, and a convenient city bus goes to the historic volcano site, which is very compelling and informative. An hourly ferry goes to Kumamoto for connection with high speed trains....

"There are no staff in the reception counter of here Jisco Hotel. At first thing you have to do when arrived at Obama is to pick the room key at Hamakan Hotel(2-3minutes by car from Jisco). Then, the front staff of Hamakan Hotel will tell you the way to entre to Jisco Hotel building and related items during stay. I was satisfied with the stay for the outstanding cleaness of Jisco Hotel's facilities. I didn't choice the plan which contains meals, but easily to access the convinience...

"Hotel is in a really nice spot where you can get a great view of Sasebo city. I was expecting more upscale based off the outside of the hotel but the rooms were more so old fashioned. However the facility is clean. "

"Great breakfast. The beds are really comfortable (they're mattresses, not futons on tatami mats). A car is needed to explore Tsushima - there is parking (300 Yen) next to the hotel - it's a VERY narrow street up to the temple and a sharp turn into the parking (my car rental provided a warning picture). Note: since the temple stay is built on the back of the temple, and Tsushima is very mountainous, it's quite possible that your room is up a bunch of steps, so pack/plan accordingly. "

"Guesthouse Wasabi was a perfect stay for Iki! Central location, right by Ashibe port on Iki island. Before arriving we hadn't really planned out how we might travel around Iki and hadn't appreciated that public transport may be quite limited, not to worry though as the owner of Guesthouse Wasabi (Takuya) jumped straight to the rescue having electric bikes or vehicles that you could rent, we opted for some electric bikes and spent one of our best days in Japan cycling across Iki island to Monkey...
