“You can fly directly to San Juan del Norte (Greytown), take a five minute boat ride to the lodge, and stay right in the middle of a 4,500 sq km bioreserve. We flew into San Carlos and took a 6-7 hour boat trip down the river to SJN. Patricia was knowledgeable, informative, and quick to respond in helping me to organize arrival and departure details. “Sábalos Lodge is literally on the majestic río San Juan. If you want to experience the rain forest with limited modern amenities this is the place for you. The cabins are built on stilts and have no air conditioning but the cool breeze from the river is enough for a good comfortable night sleep. We saw a small caiman from our balcony as well as howler monkies. The staff (Ismael) is incredibly gracious. Good typical nicaraguan food as well as wine, beer and cocktails. Wonderful experience!”
