Nice place to visit

Posted Apr 2, 2017
Pros: Great surroundings, great view towards the Charges River. Enjoyed the trails.
Cons: The room was musty and way too much noise from AC and dehumidifier. Had to turn off to get a good night sleep. The wildlife tour was not available.
Location: Panama canal is just a short stroll down the road, a number of trails available. Good location to relax.
Enjoyed the stay and especially the tram tour. Fairly pricy if you want to join the various tours and see the facilities (butterflies, orchids etc.).

Good hotel in a stunning setting

Posted Mar 10, 2017
This hotel makes the most of its position with panoramic views over Chagres River/lake. Friendly staff and Nadili on reception desk outstanding. Food good with choice of buffet meals or a la carte. Great views from the airy bar but service can sometimes be slow. Some rainforest walks included at no extra charge. Good clean pool. This hotel would benefit from some improved maintenance here and there but overall it delivers.

Good hotel, don't stay more than 2-3 days

Posted Feb 9, 2017 on Hotels
The Gamboa Rainforest Resort is a very nice hotel, but not amazing. The rooms are pretty nice, but a little dated and not in the best shape. The bathrooms show their age the most. Hot water is non-existent in the morning for a shower, but there is plenty in the afternoons and non-peak hours. The WIFI works very well throughout the hotel. The hotel breakfast is quite good. The pool is very nice and well maintained. The free tours in the morning and afternoon are very well done, but a little short. However, they are nice. The only issue is the lack of other dining, shopping (convenience store), or things to do in the area. It's not the hotels fault, but the closest restaurant is 15 KM away.

Tour bus refuge only.

Posted Feb 2, 2017
Pros: The view and area are beautiful and unique. The Mango daiquiri's saved our good attitude.
Cons: Service and hospitality.
The A/C dumped gallons of water on the floor of our room at 7:00 pm. Staff finally moved us to another room, which did not have a working TV or telephone. After some insistence, staff eventually moved us to a third room by 9:30 pm. The problem was clearly an imposition on the staff's evening. Not really any other place to eat, and the hotel's food was boring and expensive.

Hotel is very clean and staff are friendly. Nice pool area and restaurants are good. A nice walking tour is available for free that captures the feel of the rainforest. Chaotic trying to book a tour at the tour desk with slow response on requests. Hotel could definitely use updating and improved maintenance.

Beautiful hotel near the Mira Flores locks

Posted Dec 4, 2016
Pros: Location.
Cons: If it was all-inclusive as to on sight excursions, and meals would be nice.
Location: Located on River near Mira Flores Locks in rain forest. Fishing, view Canal, wildlife, explore.
Got to Panama right behind hurricane OTTO which dumped a lot of debris in the Canal, but, except for a little rain, didn't dampen our trip. Took tram ride to top of rain forest view point which is a great view, went fishing in Gatun Lake and caught hoops of Peacock bass, and generally relaxed around the hotel grounds and pools. Not bad after a hurricane had gone through. Accommodations were large, and comfortable. We booked a Junior Suite which had an upstairs bedroom area which we didn't need. The staff was very nice, and always friendly. Breakfast and evening buffets were plentiful, and service was good. Plenty of English speaking staff to help with lack of Spanish. Generally a nice stay under less than ideal conditions.

Many issues - room hadn't been clean upon arrival, cleaning throughout the stay occurred sporadically and often only covered part of the room. Facilities were out of date. No information provided about the hotel facilities - no brochure, booklet, nothing. Tours overpriced. Staff not very friendly. All a bit depressing and disappointing.

Lovely property - could be exceptional!

Posted Sep 13, 2016
Pros: Wonderful staff and grounds. Pool was clean and really nice.
Cons: The building needs physical upkeep and perhaps a remodel.
Location: Location was beautiful! Marina for fishing boats, kayaking, butterfly farm, orchid farm, complimentary night safari trip, and the Aerial Tram.
We were here with our two sons - both nature lovers so the location of this resort was perfect. The hotel itself is lovely but in dire need of maintenance. The surrounding rainforest has taken its toll on this unusual property. With general maintenance and perhaps some extensive remodel this could be a 5+ star property. The staff is so willing to help you in any way. They were wonderful to us from the front desk manager, Irina Gordon to the restaurant manager Juan, as well as the bartender in the lobby bar. They couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating! We chartered a boat for two days and caught a ton of Peacock Bass in Gatun Lake and the restaurant prepared them for our dinner one night. They were so tasty - prepared in three different ways with steamed vegetables and fries. Fantastic!! Our accommodations were on the 5th floor. We had a one bedroom suite and our boys had an adjoining two queen bed room. This worked out perfectly for us. Irena Gordon made sure these accommodations were right for us. All in all, a wonderful trip! Here's hoping someone picks up this property and gives it the care that it so richly deserves.
