Old and not well maintained. Beautiful grounds but plumbing and infrastructure old and rooms a bit musty. Location by loading docks also not ideal.

Wonderful hotel

Pros: The lavish decor and large open spaces facing the water. We loved the pool area and the restaurants around it.
Cons: The air conditioning systems in the rooms could make things cooler. The restaurants outside could also use a fan system to keep the air moving.
This was a wonderful hotel with a rich history of illustrious guests. The view is second to none and the amenities are top notch.

Very nice hotel away from the busy city centre

Pros: Pool Bar Restaurant Size of room
Cons: Guests are allowed to smoke in the eating areas, even at breakfast, which I guess is Italy/Europe rather than the hotel.
Location: We preferred to be out of the centre of the city, away from the busy streets. You can get into the city by free shuttle bus which worked well for us.
Very nice hotel with excellent pool and lovely bar and restaurant overlooking the sea and the harbour. Very comfortable spacious room. I would stay there again,

Charming hotel but urgently needing renovation

The property is beautiful but the rooms are really a let down. We stayed at one of their deluxe rooms and it felt dirty. The carpet was old and full of stains. The two armchairs were nothing but filfthy to the extend I would not sit down wearing my white pants. The bathroom was not only old and démodé but the fixtures were broke and the water didn't heat up. At USD 450 a night, it is unacceptable. The restaurants and public areas are old fashioned but pleasantly and nicely old fashioned.

Grand hotel not great location

It is a grand hotel charging grand prices set in a very poor part of town making walking out of the hotel almost impossible. minimum of 15 euros to anywhere. Away from town there is the villa costanza...a fantastic restaurant only 10 mins walk away but with no pavements on a busy winding round. The shuttle bus is great and free We used this several times into palermo but no good for late in the evening meals. The restaurant served great food with fantastic views but costly. The breakfasts were excellent with a wide range of food and run by lovely staff. Most of the staff on the reception however were very standoffish and not welcoming at all. There was tea making facilities in the room which was great and fresh bottled water free every day. The room itself was a reasonable size with very tall ceilings. We had a garden and marina view. The pool is a good size with towels provided free. It is an impressive place with lovely marble floors and antiques. Overall we did enjoy our stay but were disappointed with not being able to walk into palermo.

Beautiful old hotel, a little bit worn.

The villa igea is a gorgeous building set on beautiful grounds. Rooms could use a bit of an update, all feels a bit like the 80s. But it is incredibly charming. Most of the staff were terrific. Small downsides were that the free shuttle to town is often overlooked so you have to take a taxi (20 euros). Also the food and drink at the hotel itself are overpriced (12 euro for a bottle of beer and 21 euro for a club sandwich).

great place

hard to get too, but place was very nice, with the windows opened we heard a lot of road noise, radios blaring. A/c was inoperable or controlled by the front desk.

Pros: Everything
Cons: Open the pool late into evening.
Location: Didn't get a chance to explore. But perfect to stay at for first night after landing.
Was even better than expected, great staff, great room service, great views, quiet, stunning views. Easy to drive to from airport and not that far out of town centre.

Front desk didn't meet expectations

Booked room with breakfast included then realized our flight left before breakfast on day two. They said they couldn't change the reservation but would arrange for boxed breakfasts. Then the first morning they wanted to charge us for breakfast and the second had forgotten the boxed breakfasts. They scrambled to put something together that was gluten free (not required) and not good. Quite an expensive throw away breakfast!
