We stayed at Ballena Rey Hotel from December 14–18 in Unit 9 while traveling from Canada to do some scuba diving in Uvita, and we had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The hotel was very clean and well maintained. Housekeeping came every day to clean the room and provide fresh towels, which we really appreciated after long days of diving.
The hotel is located in a safe and quiet neighbourhood. The property itself has a peaceful atmosphere and was never noisy. Our unit was on the ground floor beside the pool and restaurant area, but noise was never an issue. By the time we went to bed around 9 p.m., everything was calm and quiet. The bed and pillows were also very comfortable to sleep in which makes a huge difference.
Every staff member we encountered was friendly and welcoming. The daytime manager at the front desk (we unfortunately can’t remember his name) truly stood out. He went above and beyond to help us with any requests, always greeted us with a warm smile, and genuinely cared about how our day was going.
We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Uvita! "
"Although the location is a little out of the way, about 5km up the mountain on a rocky road, the view was amazing! Rooms were clean and employees were helpful! We had a little trouble with the ac but they were very attentive and brought fans right away until we got it squared away. They also helped with activity recommendations and bookings. We had in room massages that were awesome! "
"This place is a gem. Our room cabin number 1 was huge. Ac and hot water worked perfectly. The host was extremely helpful. We were steps from the beach, parrots flying in the early morning. The room had everything you could need. There were restaurants very nearby. And one on site. Our favorite was the Native bar next to the beach. "
"Room was amazing with a fantastic view. Easily the best hotel we stayed in during our trip to Costa Rica. Staff were lovely and food in the restaurant was really good. Loved the pool area to spend the afternoon and watch the sunset!"
"La Cusinga is such a special place. It’s everything I hoped it would be in an eco lodge. The grounds are amazing. The swimming hole was fantastic. The hikes you can do on the property, especially down to Playa Arco were spectacular. The hike down to Playa Arco at low tide and the swimming hole were the highlight of the stay.
The pool was perfect for cooling off and relaxing after a hike.
The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Veronica at check in and check out and Michael and Ever at the restaurant gave us exceptional service.
The rooms are rustic in an eco lodge way, beautifully constructed and in harmony with nature. We saw birds and agoutis right from our balcony. Although there is no a/c we found the room to be perfectly comfortable with the fan and it wasn’t hot at night.
The included breakfast was exceptional, we were always greeted with a fresh juice of the day and then a plate of fruit, and breakfast is made to order. We ate dinner at the hotel both nights. The tomahawk pork chop was delicious.
Overall we loved our stay and were very happy to have chosen this special place. "
