Luxury Farmhouse with Stunning Somerset Views

"We booked Smokeham Farm for a surprise family gathering to celebrate my Mum's 80th birthday. We looked at a number of places that would accommodate around 20 people (from 7 to 84 years old) and although top of budget, Smokeham Farm stood out from the photos and website details. As good as they are, the details and photos don't do Smokeham Farm justice! From turning off of the road heading up the long drive towards a very private and exclusive looking building, to finding every room was immaculate and very well equipped, made this a very special stay. We had three nights at Smokeham and despite original thoughts of visiting the surrounding area and local attractions, we only went out for food supplies. The kitchen was like home from home (my niece was able to bake a 12" double height Victoria sponge with equipment supplied) and the size and variety of sleeping spaces accommodated couples, singles and those who were slightly less ambulant. There are so many great spaces, everyone was catered for, from the pool table in the annexe to the fantastic hot tub, games sessions in the massive lounge area to breakfast together round the huge dining table and BBQ's round the equally well equipped outside patio. The grassed areas to the front of the house saw multiple games of football, rounders and badminton and for those who wanted to chill out and admire the view, the thatched seating area on the hill behind the house was used from dawn to dusk! A fantastic place to stay, enjoyed by all of our group, currently looking for an excuse to book up and stay again!"

"We were a family party spanning three generations - nine adults and five children. Everything about this place was really good. The only issues we had (which were minor) were dealt with swiftly and efficiently. The facilities are good and the location is very good. The views across Somerset are breathtaking. I would recommend this location unreservedly."

"Very nice venue quiet stay the only small issues for our stay was work space in kitchenette Very limited no freezer just small box in fridge. We also booked this venue because it cattered for dogs but you could not walk from property due to main road outside and no walkable foot path hence they had to be taken in the car twice a day. We did enjoy the four day break. Just need to be prepared to use your car if you have issues with walking distances."

"Fantastic stay over new years. The property is perfect for 2 families with a wonderfully spaced kitchen. The log fire was a great way to congregate everyone in the lounge for games and festivities. Rosie and Sue were fabulous hosts and always available or to answer questions or help with any issues we had. We also managed to get to the Quantocks for a sunset view and visited Kilve Besch for fossil hunting. Both no more than 15 mins drive away. Nether Stowey is a lovely village to wander round with 2 pubs to enjoy a few drinks. Only 15 mins walk away but beware the hill back is long and steep. Will definitely be back!"

"The cottage was lovely, beautifully done up, very comfortable sofas and beds. Nice little outdoor area. There were a few minor issues as with any holiday let. Owners were very helpful before we arrived but once there any questions had to go to the caretaker who then asked the owner. The owners live on site but we didn’t see them at all. Maybe away? Our biggest problem was with taking our dog. She’ll only toilet off the lead, on grass. There is no grass by the cottage. Taking her through the owners paddock (on lead due to ponies and sheep which we knew about) and through the kissing gate as instructed, leads you to fields all surrounded by electric wire (which we found out the hard way as no signs). The only public footpath from this direction has a stile with no dog access. Going uphill from the kissing gate the public footpath had been blocked off with an electric fence. On asking the caretaker (who asked the owner) we were told that dogs can get through the stile but we checked and there wasn’t a dog gate. On the last morning we walked out the gate you drive in through and there are two public footpaths there. They are much more accessible for dogs. Had a lovely time and brilliant if you don’t have a dog, it was all just a bit annoying trying to work out where we could walk her. Would stay again with no dog. "
