Footpath at Bishop Karney Green This area just west of Woolpit is named after Bishop Arthur Baillie Lumsdaine Karney, b. 14 September 1874, d. 8 December 1963. He was the first Bishop of Johannesburg in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa and the Church of England. For a short period at the start of the 20th century he was, as a young man, Rector of Woolpit. His successor as Bishop of Johannesburg was Desmond Tutu. A footpath runs across this land, acting as a short-cut between Broomhill Lane and Beyton Road.

“The cottage was comfortable and well equipped. We were met by the owner, Mark, on arrival, who was very welcoming. He provided lots of local information, including walks and pubs marked on an OS map. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. There are several properties here, but all wirh separate entrances and outside seatinf areas so they feel private. It was a great base for a few days in the Suffolk countryside. ”

“We recently rented three homes in England - They were all very, very, good. Even with this tough competition, the Mac Shack stood out as an absolutely wonderful stay. From the friendly, helpful, host and hostess and their beautiful, very comfortable home, I cannot imagine a better rental. “Very nice quaint cottage everything you need for a comfortable stay. Bed very comfy. The only downside for me was the very steep narrow stairs but were manageable. The owner was very nice and helpful lovely breakfast basket left in the kitchen with bacon eggs tomatoes bread butter and milk. A fire made in the grate just needed lighting. I had a very pleasant stay would definitely stay there again.”
