With a salinity of 342 g/kg, or 34.2%, it is one of the world's saltiest bodies of water – 9.6 times as salty as the ocean – and has a density of 1.24 kg/litre, which makes swimming similar to floating. A young Shepard throwing a stone at a goat heard it crash against pottery and discovered the scrolls in caves in the mountains. The visit was rather disappointing: you can’t go to the caves and you are limited to see the ruins of some early Christian sect and a small museum.
