Nam-gu

Busan

A glass-bottomed infinity pool overlooking a coastal landscape with clear blue waters and distant mountains.
A modern building with a unique white canopy structure, surrounded by well-maintained topiary gardens and flower beds.
A modern urban area with high-rise buildings, a cafe, and a landscaped park with benches and flowers.
A rocky cliff with a viewing platform overlooking the sea.
A well-maintained park with neatly trimmed hedges and trees, a central pathway, and modern buildings in the background.
The world’s only United Nations cemetery and a glass skywalk that extends from a tall cliff make this an exceptional district.

Nam-gu is a large and diverse zone known for its UN memorials and other cultural highlights. Located along the coast, its picturesque islands are adorned by a historic lighthouse and a glassy viewing platform. Spend a few days visiting Nam-gu and get to know both the urban and coastal sides of this fascinating district.

At the spot where the South Sea and the East Sea meet, the glorious Oryukdo Skywalk protrudes off the edge of a cliff. Made of glass, this horseshoe-shaped platform offers stunning views of the water and the rock formations rising from it. View the scenic Oryukdo Island group of islets spread before you.

Visit the Oryukdo Lighthouse, which dates back to 1937. The lighthouse provides excellent views of the Busanhang Port. Enter the large white complex on a rocky outcrop to see its exhibit of photos depicting other interesting lighthouses across Korea.

Back toward the city center, appreciate the array of cultural attractions. In the comprehensive Busan Museum, learn about the region’s history. Watch a dramatic performance or study an art exhibit in the Busan Cultural Center, which presents all types of musical concerts.

Remember the Korean War at the impressive UN Peace Memorial Hall. Watch a film about the war in the 4-D theater and marvel at the photos on display. The nearby UN Memorial Cemetery contains the 2,300 graves of the United Nations’ casualties during the war.

Nam-gu is a varied district containing some of Busan’s most iconic institutions and coastal emblems. It stretches across the southeastern corner of Busan, from the outskirts of the city center down to the coast. Ride a bus from Busan Station to Nam-gu in about 40 minutes and travel around the area by taxi. While you’re in Busan, explore nearby zones such as Geumjeong, the Dongnae District and the Gangseo District.
