There's so much to do in Plaka, but head farther afield and you'll find more sightseeing magic. Pick up a set of wheels and you can wander around the surrounding region at your own speed. Add these fantastic destinations to your to-do list:

• Kalamata is roughly 110 miles from Plaka. Well-known tourist spots like Kalamata Beach deserve a place on your must-see list here.
• Approximately 100 miles away, Lamia is also a hit with wanderers. Be sure to get to Thermopylae Hot Springs while you're here. It's one of the reasons people love visiting this colorful city.
• Get into the great outdoors and breathe in some fresh air at Red Beach. You'll find it roughly 140 miles from Plaka.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Greece, then you'll likely need to apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your home country in order to rent a car. Also consider that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll have to show your current driver's license your passport and other forms of ID as well.
