After you've ticked off the interesting places in Salamanca, there's loads more to discover in the surrounding area. Pick up the keys to a rental car, toss your bags in the trunk and get on the road. Here are some drives we think you'll enjoy:

• Toledo is about 45 miles from Salamanca. Well-known tourist spots like Toledo Cathedral deserve to be high on your list here.
• Approximately 45 miles away, Segovia is also popular with wanderers. Make sure you take in Segovia Aqueduct while you're here. It's one of the reasons people love staying a while in this city.
