An Authentic Cajun Experience right in the heart of Lafayette
The Mouton Plantation is a 10-room bed & breakfast in downtown Lafayette, offering a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of the city while still being centrally located. The carefully preserved plantation home was built in 1820 by Charles Mouton, son of Lafayette's founder, Jean Mouton. The bed and breakfast features beautiful bedrooms furnished with period furniture and charming cottages on the property. Each spacious guest room has a unique ambiance and is thoughtfully designed for an unforgettable plantation experience. Although the cottages and carriage house resemble original plantation buildings, inside you will find modern luxury rooms, plush with antique four poster beds, private baths and all modern amenities. Our philosophy is simply to keep it casual, cozy, and above all, human. The Mouton Plantation’s style of hospitality is not flashy or exclusive, nor is it predictable or contrived. This historic property was once a home and that is what drives our ethos – to welcome guests as we would someone into our own home, to care for them and do whatever it takes to ensure their time with us is as memorable as possible. Even though the plantation is located on 300 acres in the early 1800's, the city expanded all around the plantation home during a time of growth and prosperity in Cajun country after the train arrived in 1880.
