At 850 feet (260 m) high, the 70-story building is the 14th tallest in New York City and is a great place for capturing views at sunset (especially because it offers views of the Empire State Building). To get this shot, head to the top of Rockefeller Center, known as "Top of the Rock." The entrance is on W 50th St between 5th and 6th Avenues. Tickets can be purchased on the basement level of building. Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance in order to make your way to the top by sunset (the entry system is timed). Also allot time for a security screening and wait times at the elevator. Once you arrive at the observation deck take the escalator to the upper levels where your views won't be impeded by the glass windscreens. Tripods are not allowed (although monopods are allowed), but you can rest your camera on the stone barriers of the upper observation deck. Thats a big plus!! The hotel's downstairs interior is absolutely gorgeous. However, I experienced having a room with a very large water bug (roach) which scared the bejeezus out of me once I discovered it. God knows how long it was there visiting with me lol. There was also a problem with the rooms temperature. Other guest had the same issue in regard to their room temperature. I was immediately changed to another room for my issues. Although, the new room had no bugs, it did in fact have water damage throughout. Which was an eye sore lol when in the room. My motto, spend only 4.5hrs in your hotel room once awake... sleep, wash, dress, snack, photo op, then leave. Outside of the room issues, the hotel staff was pleasant.
