Traditional House With Pool And Great View!

Villa Gaia is a traditional stone built house, recently renovated (2008), located in a quiet area in the village Skouloufia, 18km away from Rethymno. The villa is built in one floor layout. On the exterior of the house, there is a big yard with a 25sqm swimming pool with sunchairs and umbrellas around it , a stone made barbecue and a garden. There is also a large veranda with a dining table covered by a pergola. The house has a spectacular view to the sea and the surrounding area, which the visitor can enjoy from the yard.
Ideally suitable for 5 people, there are three bedrooms in the Villa, all with view to the sea – one with double bed and terrace, one with semi-double bed and terrace and one with twin beds. A baby cot is also provided to the guests.
The house has a spacious dining and living room, traditionally decorated, with a fireplace and a smart satellite TV with a Blueray player and an open plan fully equipped kitchen. There is also one bathroom with W/C, and hydro massage bath.
All of the rooms are fully air conditioned. The combination of the air conditioning, the fireplace and the sun heating makes the house suitable for all the seasons of the year.
There are many villages with tavernas, mini markets and pharmacies nearby, as well as many historical sightseeing like the Arkadi monastery (8kms away) and the ancient Eleytherna (7kms away). The nearest beach is only 6 km away from the villa, in the village Stavromenos.

Our week in Crete
Lovely place to stay! Comfortable, clean, well kept property. Property manager was so welcoming and helpful. On arrival there was a full, prepared meal for us, as well as home made bread! Additionally, there were all essentials such as bottled water, milk, juice, butter, and jam for breakfast the next morning. Beds and linens were excellent, and plenty of towels for the bath and pool. Pool and landscaping were lovely, and surrounding area was very scenic. We had a great stay, and suggestion from the manager led us to a few fabulous restaurants, that we would never have found on our own. Highly recommend this property!!

A quiet, but warmly supported villa in the Rethymno hills
The owner/managers, Zacharias and Ioannis, are wonderful hosts! They met us on arrival and brought frequent treats. They are very accessible if you have any questions. The villa is very well located, in the hills above and a bit east of Rethymno, our favorite city on Crete. The villa is close to the new Eleutherna archeological museum, the Arkadi Monastery, numerous olive oil mills and wineries, and many enchanting villages. It is quiet, but only a few minutes away from restaurants and supermarkets in Stavromenos. The villa has a fully equipped kitchen, a washer (clothes dry on a portable rack), comfortable bedrooms. Interior finishes and exterior landscaping and hardscapes are excellent. We were here in November, and so didn't use the pool. The outside patio/dining area will be very inviting during the warmer months. The internet is reliable, although the signal might be on the weak side in the bedrooms. We would certainly return here on a future visit to Crete!

The most thoughtful hosts you could ever hope for!
Zacharias and his family greeted us warmly with wine from their family's vineyard, Raki, fruit, bread, homemade jam from Zarcharias' mother (and many other treats) and even more timely, a hot lunch after our long trip. From the moment we arrived, we felt like long lost family. They manage to strike a perfect balance between attentive care and allowing your family to have whatever personal space you may need. The house was cozy, comfortable and well appointed. The location was perfect (in Rethymno prefecture) for many wonderful day trips. By all accounts, a perfect home away from home. Upon our departure, more thoughtful gifts were showered upon us. We cannot wait to return and hope all is well for Zacharias, his brother, mother and father......Efharisto!

Lovely Spot
We arrived very late to the property but Zacharias was there waiting to welcome us. We were also very surprised to find a selection of goodies. Very generous. The villa has everything you need. The beach towels were a great thing to not have to bring. The villa was very clean and decorated in a traditional way. The patio area outside was perfect for sitting in the morning for breakfast and the evening. The position of the villa is very central we were able to get to the other side of the island and found triopetra which was our favourite beach. This place is ideal if you want to do some exploring but also want to get away from the main tourist areas. Thank you for making our holiday so memorable. Best wishes

A delightful small villa set in a lovely location
This villa is part of a small cluster of other holiday villas (about 20 or so) all different but set in a community in the foothills of Psiloritis just outside the delightful village of Skouloufia. Zacharias the owner / host was welcoming and hospitable providing groceries on arrival and pies cooked by his mother during the stay. He was extremely approachable and helpful. The villa was clean and spacious with every facility. Pool area nice and private with a lovely garden and terrace smelling pungently of bourganvillea and jasmine. Pool a little cold but refreshing! Excellent value and perfect for us as two adults. It would easily accommodate two couples but the perfect mix would probably be a small family. Splendid views of coastline. The only real downsides? The need for a car, so if you don't like driving be prepared to self cater. If you are not unhappy to drive, there are beautiful country roads leading up to the hillside villages and Arcadia monastery and Rethymon and Panorama (both delightful) in easy reach. The wifi signal is weak, probably sharing bandwidth in the community so make sure your mobile data package is good.The owners have built a more modern and larger house immediately in front which was unoccupied at the time, save for one night when a noisy family were using it (friends of the owner?) and kids splahsing about in the pool. So if you like perfect solitude this could be an issue. However generally a very quiet area. It would work well for two families renting both villas and it would be worth raising this with Zacharias at the time of the initial enquiry. He was a brilliant at responding to all enquiries and his mum's feta and spinach pies were the best we tasted on the island! We hope to return as we loved Villa Gaia.

A beautifully renovated stone farm building with great views over the countryside to the sea.
The hosts are very organised and welcoming, providing a fridge ful of goodies on arrival. The instructions to find the villa are accurate although not all road signs are easy to spot. I would suggest finding it in google maps before you leave. The house is renovated to a high standard and has everything you will need making the place a real home from home. The walls are really thick so it stays cool throughout the day and the aircon throughout is suitably sized to have it like a fridge if desired. The garden and pool area are very private and not overlooked with a front garden and veranda area planted with mature flowering plants. Although skoulafia is a really quite village with few amenities it is only a 5 min drive to stavromenos where there are supermarkets, tavernas even a traditional flourist The promenade and beaches of rethymon are about another 10 mins. This area has a huge selection of dining and shopping opportunities to rival any tourist area. We didn't stay out too late as we have kids, but it looked like it would be a lively place until the early hours. Overall an excellent Chose for a family holiday in Crete.

Amazing!
This is an absolutely lovely villa in a quiet location, just inland from hotels along the coast. It is well laid out and extremely well equipped. Zacharias is a great host who met us at the villa when we arrived in the early hours. The starter food package was much appreciated as were the gifts on our departure. We managed to lock ourselves out at one point and Zacharias quickly came to rescue us with a gift of some amazing cakes to say sorry! He was so gracious to us. There is plenty to do in the immediate area as well as further a field or you can just chill by the pool! Zacharias' warmth together with that of his brother and mum, really made the stay for us. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay in Crete.

Fantastic!
The house was a fabulous place to rest. It was so comfortable and quiet with all you could need. Zacharius couldn't, have done more from the basket of goodies and olive oil on arrival, to the midweek cakes and the final parting gifts of oregano, olive oil and homemade quince jam. Our boys loved the pool and the grassy area to play various ball games! Stavromenos had all you needed, a supermarket, a butchers, a fabulous bakers and a great taverna or 2! We explored the south of the island from here but a couple of the highlights were right on our doorstep, the Arkadi Monastery and the family run olive oil factory at Paraschakis. We miss the Cretan hospitality already! Thank you.

Ideal villa for relaxed visit to Crete
We had a fantastic week here. The house was lovely with a delightful terrace for enjoying meals surrounded by flowers and their scents. There was everything we needed inside. The swimming pool was great for cooling off. We used the barbecue a couple of times with meat from a supermarket down in Stavromenos. Zacharias is enormously helpful and hospitable, he and his family provided a couple of delicious food presents, he also provided charcoal for the barbecue and was very helpful when we struggled to find the house after a late flight. We would definitely recommend staying here. The villa is comfortable and had all we needed. It's in a quiet location which is just what we wanted for a week of unwinding. It has a pool and a small lawn area. There is air conditioning though we didn't need it too often if we kept outside shutters closed and windows open. There are also blinds to stop flies, though there seemed fewer than we are used to in France and Italy. I recommend you have a car as it is a bit of a trek to villages and towns. This was our first time in Crete/Greece, we really enjoyed it. Cretans seemed always hospitable, often the restaurants would turn up with "on the house" bonus items (raki, or an extra dessert). One thing worth noting, the main road along the North coast does not allow left turns. You have to turn off to right then find a tunnel underneath. It took a while to get the hang of this, and some tunnels are narrow with steep slip roads to get to them.

The villa and the generosity of the owners exceeded our expectations - we hope to return!
I think it's fair to say that we've been blown away by the quality of the villa, and the friendliness and generosity of the hosts. It has been our best villa experience so far. The villa is nicely furnished and is spacious indoors and outdoors; all the listed facilities were present and worked (including the air con!) The soft landscaping is beautiful and well kept making sitting on the terrace and around the pool a very pleasant experience.The villa maintains being secluded and peaceful, and with friendly neighbours, whilst being in an easily accessible location making trips to other areas in Crete easy to do. The welcome by Zacarius’s parents was amazingly kind; they came and rescued us when we got lost on the way to the villa in the dark! Also provided was a very generous welcome box which was above and beyond all necessities. We have massively enjoyed our holiday. We will be recommending this villa to all our family and friends.

Wir hatten eine wunderbar erholsame Woche in der Villa Gaia. Ruhig gelegen in einem kleinem Dorf, aber mit einem Mietauto alles gut zu erreichen. Wir wurden von Zacharias herzlich empfangen, der Kühlschrank war sehr gut gefüllt und es gab gleich eine selbstgekochte leckere Mahlzeit. Wir haben uns hier wirklich sehr wohl gefühlt !

Ein traumhafter Urlaub
Besser kann es nicht sein. Der Vermieter und seine Familie kümmern sich klasse und vor allem herzlich um alle Belange. Wir kamen Samstags erst nach 22 Uhr am Anreisetag an und wurden herzlich von Zacharias begrüßt. Es wurde uns alles gezeigt und erklärt. Die Überraschung schlechthin: die Mutti des Vermieters hatte uns was gekocht und einen Kuchen gebacken, sowie Kaffee, Milch, Brot, Saft, Butter und Marmelade fürs Frühstück am Sonntag standen bereit. Ebenso war reichlich Wasser da. Und die anderen Überraschungen waren einfach überragend. Wir haben die Ruhe dieser Villa sehr genossen. Der Pool hat eine wunderbare Größe und eine Außendusche ist auch da. Die Liegen und Schirme sind super und auch der Sitzbereich auf der Terrasse ist traumhaft. Der Ausblick bis zum Meer runter ist wunderbar. Auch die Zimmer sind super - an allen Fenstern gibt es Mückenschutzrollos. In der Küche ist alles da was man braucht....perfekt. In der Umgebung kann man viel unternehmen; ein Mietwagen ist allerdings notwendig. Fazit: Ein wunderbarer, sehr erholsamer und traumhafter Urlaub - wir haben es sehr genossen & wollen auf jeden Fall nochmal kommen. Große Kompliment an Zacharias und seine Familie!

Amazing experience at Crete
It has been an incredible stay. The house has all the amenities one needs and more to be comfortable. It's beautiful and has great views. It's within a short distance of some beautiful and warm beaches. The hosts are some of the best I've ever encountered, incredibly friendly and helpful, always attentive to anything we might need. They welcomed us with a breakfast that saved us since our flight arrived very early. The pool is perfect for the size of the house and allows for a peaceful day without the need to go out. They recommended places to eat that made a difference in our visit to the island. I definitely recommend them 100%. Thank you for contributing to make our vacation special.

Our flight landed a very late on Sunday in Chania airport. We got into the car and drove 1.5 hours to the house. Night driving in Greece is special experience but all vent very smooth, GPS was doing great job in leading us, no mistakes. All shops and restaurants were closed due to late timing but luckily for us the owner of the house (Zack) has prepared amazing food and drinks for us to make sure that no one is left hungry in his house. The house and the owner (Zack) gave very positive impression, actually the house looks much better compared to the pictures. There are 3 sleeping rooms which are all equipped with the air conditioners. Living room is big enough and its combined with the kitchen which is also equipped with the aircon unit. Kitchen has all you need including dishwasher. It’s very easy to adapt to the house from inside and outside. Outside area is nicer and bigger compared to the pictures. Outside you get the parking place, swimming pool area, big table covered by the roof and the barbeque charcoal grill. During the stay we had no issues in this lovely house. Zack is very client minded person who was very supportive and helpful. Very good job by Zack and his team in maintaining this fantastic place. Thanks for positive atmosphere and good luck in the future.

Entspannter Urlaub in den Bergen Kretas
Wir haben die Zeit im Ferienhaus auf dem Land sehr genossen. Die Familie Katsirakis sind sehr gastfreundliche und zuvorkommende Gastgeber. Wir wurden kurz nach der Landung schon kontaktiert und mit Kuchen und einem vorbereiteten Abendessen empfangen. Das Haus ist sehr geräumig und gut ausgestattet, der Pool an warmenTagen sehr angenehm. Wer im Urlaub Ruhe und ländliche Beschaulichkeit sucht, ist hier sehr gut aufgehoben. Selbst bei der Organisation eines Besuchs der Samariaschlucht war unser Gastgeber behilflich-kurzum, wir können das Ferienhaus nur weiterempfehlen und uns bei Familie Katsirakis bedanken. Ein wirklich schöner Urlaub
Wir waren im April als Familie mit kleinen Kindern bei Zacharias im Haus. Wir werden sicher wieder kommen! Alles war sauber und liebevoll eingerichtet. Es sieht genauso aus, wie auf den Fotos. Unser Flug hatte sich verspätet und wir kamen erst am späten Abend an. Zacharias hat per Telefon kontakt mit uns gehalten, uns auch Abends noch persönlich begrüßt. Er hatte für uns warmes Essen bereit gestellt, weil wir zu keinem Supermarkt mehr kamen. Sogar das Frühstück für den nächsten Morgen war abgedeckt, eine Flasche Wein, ein Osterkuchen und ein 6er Pack Wasser stand bereit. Für unsere Kinder hatte er kleine Ostergeschenke. Wirklich super nett. Man hat sich komplett wohl gefühlt. Wir konnten Zacharias immer anschreiben oder anrufen, wenn wir fragen hatten. Das Haus liegt ein wenig abseits, man braucht definitiv einen Mietwagen. Die Fahrt zum Flughafen Heraklion dauert ca eine Stunde. Alle Zimmer haben eine Klimaanlage/Heizung. Wir waren 12 Tage vor Ort und das Haus wurde sogar einmal gereinigt. (auch hier wurden wir vorher informiert) Fazit: Wir kommen gerne wieder. Wir haben absolut nichts zu bemängeln.

We received a fantastic welcome. Since we arrived late in the evening on a Saturday, some food was available and even a dinner was prepared. It really made you feel welcomed. The house is really nice, everything generously furnished and clean. We will come again...

Urlaub bei Freunden ❤️
Das 🏡 ist traumhaft schön mit allem was man sich wünscht um einen tollen Urlaub zu verbringen-einfach ein wunderschönes Fleckchen Erde mit ganz viel Charme! Die Besitzer Familie ist unfassbar freundlich und Hilfsbereit- bei unserer Ankunft war tatsächlich sogar der Kühlschrank gefüllt - wir bedanken uns bei Dir lieber Zacharias ,deinem Bruder und deiner Familie für Eure Gastfreundschaft und Eure Herzlichkeit und hoffe wir dürfen wiederkommen!! Schönes Haus und perfekter Gastgeber
Das Haus ist wirklich schön und in einem guten Zustand. Jedes Zimmer hat eine Klimaanlage, die einzeln gesteuert wird. Alle Fenster haben Fliegengitter. Die Küche ist voll ausgestattet und funktional. Der Pool ist schön und hat den ganzen Tag Sonne. Es gibt fünf Liegen und zwei Sonnenschirme, durch die Hecken und das Haus bieten sich aber auch so immer schattige Plätze. Beheizt wird der Pool durch die Sonne, kann aber auch elektrisch zugeheizt werden (war bei uns nicht notwendig). Auf dem ganzen Grundstück gibt es Pflanzen, die bei uns schön geblüht haben. Im Haus gibt es nicht viel zu bemängeln, maximal die Dusche (in der Ecke der Badewanne positioniert und recht unpraktisch), die Türen quietschen und machen ziemlichen Krach und das Metallgestell des großen Doppelbettes quittiert auch jede Bewegung mit einem Geräusch. Das rechtfertigt aber in meinen Augen kaum einen Punkteabzug. Während unserer 10 Tage kam eine Putzfrau und hat einmal geeinigt und Bettwäsche sowie Handtücher getauscht. Was man aber unbedingt beachten sollte, ohne Auto geht gar nichts! Es gibt fußläufig kein Geschäft und kein Restaurant. Mit dem Auto ist aber alles in wenigen Minuten erreichbar. Um einen herum sind nur noch ein paar andere Villen. Für uns war die Lage sehr gut, wir sind von hier nach Rethymno, Chania, Heraklion, den Stränden im Süden und zur Samaria-Schlucht gestartet. Positiv sind auch die beiden Brüder die sich um alles kümmern. Zacharias und Yannis sind immer erreichbar und antworten sehr schnell (englisch). Zur Begrüßung haben wir selbst gekochtes Essen, Kuchen, Brot, Wein, Olivenöl, Honig, Magarine, Kaffee, einen Obstteller, Wasser und sogar ein paar Bier bekommen. Für den ersten Abend und das Frühstück hätten wir gar nichts mehr benötigt. Zur Abreise war Yannis nochmal da und hat allen noch ein kleines Geschenk gegeben und sich verabschiedet.
