Our visit could have been a potential disaster. I am in my 70’s with heart problems. My only criticism of the management is that it states nowhere that the restaurant is up a steep incline with steps then to climb. After my first visit, for me it was impossible .The staff, then surpassed themselves. Their answer was to bring the meals down to my husband and I. Everything was laid out to perfection, served by Peti ,in a courteous manner. Valentines night was stunning, a beautiful table with flowers, decorative serviettes and lots of love. Everyone came to chat, staff and fellow travellers alike. ‘This was one of 4 Fijian islands we stayed on and a place where young and old exchanged stories and enjoyed the relaxing friendly space. A wonderful place to visit. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so special. I booked through Expedia expecting just lodging but found out after booking my room and the ferry to take me there that there is a non negotiable $20 tender fee and $80.00 op per night food charge. There is nothing on the Expedia site about this and Expedia was not helpful. Unfortunately I booked 2 days prior to arrival and had a non refundable return ticket via the ferry so could not change. There is limited power, no eSIM data and no wifi so I had to keep the booking. Like other island resorts they really need to state up front, before you book, the full cost of staying there. This is an all inclusive not just a room booking as you are lead to believe in Expedia. Expedia is aware an to date has not updated their site. Just be aware the cost is a lot more than advertised. The daily snorkelling trips (which are included) are not to be missed! The coral around the island is especially colourful and can see incredible fish at different times. It's definitely the most alive coral reefs we've ever seen in Fiji. We also went on a manta ray trip, and although we weren't lucky enough to see rays - we had an amazing experience. The ladder on the boat might need to be replaced soon though! The rooms are a perfect size, the outdoor shower is divine and the rooms have a small fridge too. Every staff member we met made us feel like part of the family and we spent so much time chatting with staff and other guests. We were one of 5 or 7 people on the resort during our stay and it never felt too busy. We can't wait to return! Thank you Liddi, Paul, Elinoa, Male, Saku, Jay, Ami, Api, Venni, Rusi, John and all the wonderful staff that make Mai sunset the best destination in the Yasawa islands. We booked as it said we had the place to ourselves, that there were fans in each room, and that it was clean. This wasn’t the case. If we had known what it was actually like, we wouldn't have booked it. This is more like one star accommodation. As I said, Imeri was lovely and I don't want to diminish her hospitality, but when I said to her it wasn’t what the website said it was, she mentioned that she ought to change it! The blurb on the website is deceptive. If you do travel here, there is one toilet that may service up to a dozen people, the shower is a cold trickle, and it's very basic. As a solo traveler, the room was perfect — clean, comfortable, and peaceful. Vil and Paola took amazing care of me and always made sure I was comfortable. While the food was a bit pricey, the portions were massive as long as you are an adventurous eater — depite this I never finished a full plate! I was the only traveler on the island during my stay, which pushed me out of my comfort zone and led to some of the most meaningful experiences of my trip. I met many locals, learned about village life, and truly felt welcomed. I highly recommend attending the Sunday church service and joining the village-wide community lunch — it’s a beautiful way to connect and experience a full day of rest in true Fiji style. There’s an incredible reef just outside the school and a beautiful sandbar just a short walk and swim from the homestay. I also went handline fishing and snorkeling with sharks — both included in a single 50 FJD trip that was well worth it. I also recommend buying souvenirs from them — the prices were much better than anything I saw in Nadi, and you know the money supports the village directly, not a scam. If you’re after adventure, culture, and connection, Ocean View should be at the top of your list. 6/5 stars!"
