I recently returned from an unforgettable stay at Riu Funana in Sal, Cape Verde, and I can confidently say this resort exceeded all expectations.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by friendly, professional staff who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Their warm hospitality and attention to detail truly made a difference and elevated the entire experience.
The resort itself is a beautiful oasis nestled in an otherwise arid landscape. Lush gardens, spacious grounds, and well-maintained facilities create a feeling of paradise. But the real showstopper is the stunning beach – imagine turquoise waters lapping against white, powdery sand that stretches for miles. It’s postcard-perfect and ideal for both relaxing and taking in the breathtaking views.
One of the highlights of our stay was the entertainment. The team does a fantastic job, keeping the energy high and the atmosphere lively. A special mention must go to the All White Party on Friday night – an absolutely exceptional event! The music, lights, dancing, and vibe made it one of the most memorable nights of the holiday.
Whether you’re looking to unwind by the pool, explore the island, or enjoy vibrant entertainment in the evenings, Riu Funana has something for everyone. We left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and already planning our return.

The hotel is lovely and a wonderful location. It is tired and could use some renovation. Breakfast was terrible and the quality of food lacking. The pool is fantastic. Would come to spend the day only.

The pool bar staff were so unprofessional. Ignored people and laughed at me when I asked if they had the Cape Verdean Malta drink. They were so rude. I have never seen such bad costuner service in Sal before. The front desk staff we very nice and polite however. The place needs upgrades as the bathroom is old but was clean, the bed was unconfortble though and very loud at any movement. The place is generally is good. The bad part is that I booked this layover to work but was unable because they had no wifi for 24 hours and offered no solutions.

It's small, a family run feel, which we like the low key, personal, quiet experience. Paula at reception and all other staff are very welcoming, helpful and friendly. That makes it easy and comfortable. Our room was ideal, good space in a double room, private balcony and beautiful colours of Bourganvillea to admire, a well maintain green garden space and pool in the centre. We had breakfast in the hotel every day, however we were away by day and dined out across the island. Very simple, easy walk down into Santa Maria or across the road to the beach and beach board walk.
