First feeling when we pulled up was that the location was not going to be the peaceful setting we were expecting from the description. Granted it has beautiful views out across the bay but the hut is alongside the main road into Beadnell. The road is in between the hut & the view but not shown in any photograph. Whilst we are not talking M1 traffic volumes, cars are up & down the road, some at speed, most of the time, so sitting outside wasn’t exactly tranquil.
The hut is well equipped with clean linen & towels plus it has a fantastic shower!
We never intended to cook every meal in there as we were keen to try out restaurants in the area but was disappointed to find on our first evening, that some of the pans & glasses had been left dirty with food stuck on them so & clearly not cleaned/checked by anyone before we checked in. So our first job was to wash up what we needed to use.
The floor around the log burner & under the bed were both very dusty with ‘fluff’ collected at the foot end of the bed where the table adjoins it. Having stayed in several shepherd’s huts before, we fully appreciate that we were in effect camping so not to expect 5*hotel accommodation standards of cleanliness as technically, we were staying outdoors but surely you should get basic cleanliness, particularly pots & pans?
We had a very enjoyable few days in Beadnell but we spent a lot of time out & about more than we had intended to do, rather than spending more time enjoying the features of the hut we’d paid for, purely due to its location.
Sorry but not our idea of a peaceful location.
