The church and its tower were rebuilt several times due to fire damages and wars. The gables were changed in Rennaisance style in 1559. The tower has gothical base and baroque dome from 1677. It is 78 metres high and has 250 steps. There was a whole Neogothic redesign made in 1896-98 by Josef Mocker (the architect of Prague Castle Cathedral finalization and of several Prague Towers). The frequent fires resulted in appointment of the tower guardian who had to blow his horn each 15 minutes in the night in order not to get asleep. The Transfiguration refers to a miracle which happened to Jesus travelling to Mount Tabor with apostles Peter, James and John. Jesus was transfigured and became radiant speaking with Moses and Elijah.
