Spacious but needs maintenance and repairs
Located in a large, well maintained, secure apartment complex in a nice area of Cascais close to many attractions, this apartment provided ample living space for our group of four adults. We appreciated the new refrigerator, dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer and the ‘on-demand’ hot water heater that provided abundant hot water. However, there are some issues of concern with the property.
We were misled by photos on VRBO showing a “bright and airy” apartment along with a well-maintained exterior. Exterior photos are accurate, but interior photos are not. The apartment is “dark and gloomy” with well-worn surfaces and in need of a thorough cleaning, painting and updating of finishes; unit is probably 40 or 50 years old. Appears to have been neglected for many years.
Bathrooms are not clean; considerable mould exists along caulking at joints, cracked in places. Sinks are well-worn and scratched from years of use. Cabinets are dirty with scum from other material. Toilet seats were loose.
The gas range in the kitchen is dangerous. Must be lit by match. Probably some 40 or 50 years old, no electronic ignition and no automatic gas shut off if elements ignite and not stay lit. Only two of the four elements worked reliably. The range hood needs replacement as well.
Comments were provided to the Rental Manager who acknowledged them and undertook to ‘check into them’. In its present state, we would not return to this property nor recommend it to other travellers.
