Everything is first class and delightful. From start to finish, we loved staying here and enjoyed the delicious food. Staff was tremendous, and we look forward to another visit to Virginia’s hunt country!
Beautiful facilities. The Dutch Cottage, where we stayed in the Delphinium Suite, was extremely comfortable and well appointed. We attended a special event which was very well done. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend - we can’t wait to go back!
Unfortunately we did not get to spend lots of time on the property (other than sleeping and breakfast), but everything was great and we will definitely try to come back and spend more time at the Goodstone.
The meal was sophisticated and delicious yet complicated to order, not presented in a way that you fully understood what you were about to receive.. For example, I ordered Foie Gras and duck brest. Both were sophisticated and well done but at the same time, not as good as I have had at other restaurants. Yet similarly priced. However, I might well return to this hotel again and believe that I would enjoy it more because it takes a while to understand how to operate within the property. it is a beautiful venue. And everyone is nice. It is a few miles from the heart of the very sophiticated shopping area and that it's a disadvantage.
Booked a one night stay to see a horse and found this gem to exceed all our expectations. What a retreat! Amazing, beautiful, secluded property on the grounds of an old farm and estate. We stayed in Spring House and both rooms were well equipped, nicely decorated and comfortable with all amenities. We took a long walk on the country roads outside our door. Having bikes to ride was a very nice touch. The main lodge was perfect too in what was once the main stable area. Best yet was the dinner. Worth the trip in itself! Outstanding menu, delicious and well prepared and presented dishes. We will definitely be back as well as offer as gift certificates to family members living in D.C. Well done Goodstone!!!!!
What a wonderful experience! I will definitely stay there again!

Beautiful Property Underdelivers
Goodstone is an old estate, and there is a wonderful vibe of former luxury to it. The staff are very friendly and helpful, but there are not enough of them (or their management is lacking) to make your stay as luxurious and seamless as they would clearly like it to be, or as the price would suggest it should be.
Some things we noticed:
- delayed check in due to there only being one person available to show you to your cottage (most of the rooms are in small buildings you must drive to)
- prix fixe menu at the restaurant was fine, but didn't bear comparison to other multi-course fine dining in the area
- AC was broken in a 3rd-floor room, making it unusable
- the room we were moved to was positively dowdy in decor, and also not modernized (not enough outlets, bad wifi, small vintage double bed, nails sticking out of antique dresser drawers ....)
- lots of peeling paint and cobwebs, especially around windows
There's no question that the estate has a lot of charm, but it's too obvious that the upkeep of it is a challenge. We had a perfectly nice time (the bar in the carriage house is fun, with elegant board games for your amusement), and it was neat to stay in a museum-like accommodation - we enjoyed exploring. But it was not the superlative experience you'd expect for that kind of property and that price.
What we liked, redturant a absolute brat dining experience
What didn’t like, parking at aor cottage horrible., only room to double park behind another car which is dangerous and illegal. Refused to do so and parked in the field
I gave this property a 5 star. The chef is from Belgium and is just exceptional and could very well move the restaurant to a Michelin 1 star. The setting is very charming and each room and cottage is very unique.
The service was superb.
Fantastic "bed and breakfast" inn in the middle of Virginia hunt country. We have had dinner there before and wanted to stay overnight because everyone was so welcoming. The staff went out of their way to make things pleasant for us and we are so glad we were able to overnight. We had dinner there for a second time and it was one of the best meals ever! Well done to all!!
Beautiful location and building. Our first room was freezing cold so we were immediatey moved to a different one that was nice and cozy. Dinner was excellent.
The property is quite beautiful... several buildings spread across a relatively wide area. We were in the Ambassador room, which is in the Spring House, about a half mile from the main inn. The house is very cool... several hundred years old and has two porches, a sitting room, and a kitchen for common use. The room itself was average... small and the decor felt dated (like 1990s dated, not 1890s dated, which would have been charming)... I'd say the room was overpriced. Dinner (not included) and breakfast (included) were very tasty... pretty standard fare. All of the staff we encountered were lovely and we definitely enjoyed our stay, but I'm not dying to go back.
My husband and I could not wished for a better place to retreat and celebrate our anniversary. We stayed in a beautifully decorated French country cottage and enjoyed the peace and quiet from the surroundings. Unfortunately, the kitchen was being renovated and we could not try the highly-rated restaurant, and this is the only reason why we have not given the highest rating. We plan however to go back to enjoy the full experience.
We stayed at the Spring House in the Goodwin room. The room was very comfortable and the jetted tub was a pleasant extra. The 4-poster bed was very comfortable. The whole house was very clean and cozy. The breakfast was so delicious and the service was so friendly. We had omelettes with homemade croissants. Everything was fresh and homemade. We also enjoyed afternoon tea which is complimentary and includes homemade baked goods. I love how we were able to strike up conversations with quite a few of the staff. We walked the trails one morning and it was beautiful. The only issue was that the walls are quite thin and not soundproof at all. We could hear everything. But it is an old house and everything else was impeccable. So Goodstone Inn still earns 5 stars!
This B&B is very nice, but I gave it only a 3 overall for two reasons. First it's pricey and at that price point I expect more luxurious accomdations. While the room was nice and the bed very comfortable it was no grander than a $200 night room. Second the shower was less than reasonable in design. It was in a very deep jacuzzi. I'm 5'2" and had a difficult time getting in and out of it. The sides were at least 2 ft high if not more. The rain shower head on the side of the tub was almost too short to make it in the tub (and didn't work well). An older or disabled person would not have been able to use it. All in all the B&B is pretty, nice, and clean, but not a good value for the money.
