A pathway flanked by stone walls and lush green trees.
Serene and tranquil, this zone offers an escape from the nearby city center to enjoy its parks, churches and sports fields.

Jesmond is a fashionable neighborhood with upscale restaurants and shops alongside hip cocktail bars and international restaurants. Much of the district is covered in green parkland, with forests where red squirrels and a range of birdlife live. Visit Jesmond to get a glimpse of the affluence of suburban Newcastle in this tranquil and green haven.

Arrive on the western side of the valley to spot the ruins of St. Mary’s Chapel, which dates back to the 13th century. Admire the religious artworks and architectural gems of the Jesmond Parish Church and the Holy Trinity Jesmond. The area also made its mark on recent history, as it is thought The Beatles began composing She Loves You in the Imperial Hotel in Jesmond in 1963.

Stroll along the banks of the scenic Ouseburn stream that runs through the eastern side of Jesmond. Here you’ll find Jesmond Dene Park, with its visitor center and impressive Millfield House. Stop for coffee at the Pets’ Corner, where your kids can meet the animals. Wander across the Armstrong Bridge, which is particularly charming when covered in a layer of snow in winter.

Watch a game between a pair of rival sides at the Jesmond Cricket Ground along the northern side of All Saints Cemetery. Head west to Exhibition Park, beside the Jesmond metro stop. Its highlights include the Victorian Bandstand and the Wylam Brewery. Embark on the scenic trails with your family and stop for a picnic.

The serene district is tucked away in the northeastern corner of Newcastle. From the city center, ride the metro to the West Jesmond stop or travel by bus to one of the many stations in the area. Continue into the suburbs to reach the neighborhoods of High Heaton, Gosforth and West Moor.
