"Loved the secluded location within walking distance of the southern end of Lake Windmere. The cottage was smart and very clean, and well equipped, but we were stumpted on how to adjust the settings on the upmarket oven (a manual in kitchen drawer would have helped). We found that we had to be vigilant about the step in dark slate floor between bedrooms and kitchen/lounge (we used a bit of white cardboard to visually remind ourselves.) Had a great stay at The Bothy, we highly recommend it "

"Stayed for one night, it was ok but thought the experience at staying at a truly amazing art deco building would have been a good one, the food wasn’t good. The location truly fabulous right on the bay."

"It’s a majestic and beautiful property which has been tastefully decorated. We stayed in the family room (2 adults and a teenager) and it was huge and lovely. The only criticism would be about the bathroom…the shower pressure and no shelving in the shower or bath to put your products on (very minor though). We can’t speak highly enough of all the staff from the reception, to the restaurant/breakfast and bar. A special mention to Brendan who made one of the nicest Espresso Martinis I’ve ever had. We will definitely be back."

"Property is clean enough but quite dated. Service was ok, but only ok and opportunities to offer better services were missed often. Breakfast ‘tray’ was a Tesco bag dumped on our table (not in the fridge)with basic white sliced supermarket bread, butter, jam and OJ with a four pint of milk, which is as described but not exciting and as it wasn’t put in the fridge not great with the heat. It was delivered after 9am so too late to be of any actual is for us sadly. This needs 24 hr notice to get so if you don’t prebook it before you arrive it isn’t possible. The grounds are lovely as are the views, and it is nice and quiet. The pool can only be used in times they are not blocked for members only, There was nothing to be very upset about in this place, but very little to be excited about either. There is great opportunity for the owners here to make it amazing due to the superb location."

"Beautiful setting, really looks the same as the pictures. However, we felt that the look of the place was more important to the hotel, than how it worked. There were used cotton buds on the floor in the hotel room and the bathroom. Our 8 year olds bed was a fold out camp bed. When we tried to put the air conditioning on, it didn’t work, we later found a pice of paper in the room saying it wasn’t in use. It was a very hot day. The sheets were very starchy and noisy every time you move. Plug sockets for charging only on one side of the bed. The hotel carpets are pretty grubby. No children in the pool from 7pm, didn’t learn that until check in. No changing rooms in the swimming pool: it was like school. Then men’s didn’t even have private shower cubicles. We waited 5 mins before anyone came to seat us and 2 other groups for breakfast at 08.10, we were taken to a table but not given any instructions: do we order at the counter or the table. Waited about 3 mins at the bar to het some water while 4 staff came, went and had a chat. The check in, pool and housekeeping staff were all very professional and helpful. The breakfast was ok: eggs Royale: the breakfast muffin was so tough you couldn’t cut it, gave up on the end and just ate the eggs and salmon. Don’t get me wrong, we had a great time, but I would have expected more from this type of hotel. We’ve been on a 10 day trip to 7 different hotels and they all did much better: even the older, more dated ones."

"Breakfast was good selection, but no mugs. Asked once and they had already been taken by other guests before we could get one. Cold drinks were very disappointing. Kids pool was great with jacuzzi, steam room and sauna - amazing bonus. Evening food was fab. Kids eat free, this should be advertised more. Room was what it was described as and clean, tidy and comfortable. Would be nice if kids bedroom area was in a seperate area."
