The two step screening process on the return flight was not performed in quick succession as has always been my previous experience. The second screening occurred after we had been sitting at the gate for an hour. I had purchased a water and a soda IN THE TERMINAL RIGHT BY THE GATE after my first bottle of water needed to be discarded at the first screening. The bottle of soda and water I had purchased INSIDE THE TERMINAL AFTER THE FIRST SCREENING were confiscated during this second screening and the gate area became a restricted area with no bathrooms and no shops, no one allowed to leave or enter without being rescreened until boarding. It would be nice to know this occurs at the Panama City Airport prior to it happening so passengers could go to the bathroom prior to the 2nd screening and not buy any liquids in the terminal that they weren't going to immediately consume.
