These are often on or close to an old US highway that parallels an Interstate; and were likely built before the Interstate system was complete. They were very nice when new. However with the Interstate system now in place, there is a lot more traffic, and this gives the new larger motel chains an incentive to build more and more brand new state of the art units, with a price tag to go with it.
