Arriving at Hobbiton Movie Set, you’ll board a big green Hobbiton bus and embark on a 2.5-hour guided tour of this incredible 12-acre film set. Wander through lush pastures dotted with Hobbit holes, see the Mill, the Party Tree, and learn behind-the-scenes secrets from the making of the films. Finish your visit with a complimentary beverage at the iconic Green Dragon Inn, soaking up the Shire’s magic.
Next, we pause at beautiful Lake Karapiro for a photo stop. Framed by rolling countryside, this picturesque lake is home to one of New Zealand’s first hydro dams and a world-class rowing venue. Maintenance & restoration construction at Hobbiton is set to begin 01 June 2025, with the major works being completed in September 2025. During this period, construction and maintenance equipment and noise will be present. Tours will continue as normal but will take an alternate route around the construction zone, while being able to get a glimpse of the work that goes into keeping Hobbiton Movie Set as magical as it looked in the films.
