Description

Explore St. Petersburg with an exclusive tour of its historical center and major monuments, plus a river cruise along the Neva. You can see some of the city's most magnificent churches, visit a historic fortress, and get a unique perspective of the city from its network of canals.

Your tour starts with a look at the prestigious buildings along Nevsky Prospect, including the Anichkov, Stroganov, and Beloselsky-Belozersky palaces and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. Visit to the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, built in memory of Tsar Alexander II on the site of his assassination.

After a look at the Winter Palace, cross the Neva for a visit to the Peter and Paul Fortress, a garrison and prison built in the 18th century. See the cruiser Aurora, whose guns opened the October Revolution, followed by the log cabin where Peter the Great oversaw the city's construction.

Next, visit Vasilyevsky Island, the Admiralty Building, St. Isaac's Square, and the St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral, a beautiful Russian Baroque building built in a neighborhood crisscrossed by canals. The scene gives you a sense of why St. Petersburg is called the northern Venice, with more than 100 canals spanning 186 miles (300 km) and forming a trademark of the city.

Your tour ends with a cruise along the waterways, where you can admire the façades, pink granite embankments, and beautiful bridges with wrought-iron railings and ornamental sculptures before you return to your ship.
