Be catapulted between the antiquity of the beautiful remains of the Basilica of Sant'Eustachio and the millennia-old Paper Mills, and the unspoiled nature of the Valle delle Ferriere in the heart of the Amalfi Coast, one of the most fascinating hiking routes in the World.
Walking along ancient staircases and paths and getting lost among the lemon groves of the Amalfi Coast, one reaches the Valle dei Mulini, a forest dominated by springs and waterfalls, set in a frame between the high mountains.
In the deep valley you can see, in addition to the ruins of an old aqueduct, various examples of 10th-century industrial architecture, such as the Ferriera, where iron was produced in ancient times, and several ruins of Paper Mills, the last of the few remaining links to the history of the power and splendor of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi.
The tour starts from central Amalfi,: we will retrace the same paths of the ancient traders that will lead us to the ancient foundries and skilled blacksmiths who populated the valley. Here we will be able to admire treasures, such as the great Rio Canneto waterfall and the Petrified Mosses.
Very special and rare plants can be seen in this subtropical fauna, including the giant prehistoric fern Woodwardia Radicans, which has been present in this area for more than 65,000,000 years.
After a short break in the green “valley,” walking along the paths, we will admire from above the lemon cultivations that distinguish our territory, until we reach the small village of Pontone, and then return to Amalfi.
At the end of the nature trail, for those who wish, it is possible to visit the Paper Museum, where it is possible to reproduce a piece of paper using ancient medieval methods.
