“Can't wait to go back”

I was extremely pleased with my stay here. Ligia and her family treated me like family, they took care of my every need and they all went up and beyond to make sure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. this will be a regular vacation spot for me from now on.

“Awesome and Tranquil Slice of Paradise - World-Class Hospitality!!!”

Lavas del Arenal was a fantastic slice of paradise. This was our first trip to CR and the hosts were so welcoming and friendly - everything was prepared for us and we were made to feel as though we were VIPs. Breakfasts every morning were wonderfully prepared with care and delicious and I got to practice my Spanish with our hosts. They also invited us to friendly neighborhood chicharrones grill the night before we left which made for a magical evening. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to visitors in the Arenal volcano area but I secretly hope it stays somewhat a hidden secret as we intend to come back again and again!

“great value”

For the money, this place is hard to beat. Very quiet, peaceful setting. Owners are very friendly, although they don't speak english. Full, home cooked breakfast is included (eggs/ham, toast, juice, coffee). Convenient to la fortuna town and activities. The only negative was the shower water was warm, but not hot. Otherwise, room was clean and nice.

“A little piece of home”

Very cute place, and the couple that run it are wonderful. Very helpful and make you feel right at home. Make sure you have breakfast there in the morning, it is wonderful! The place is a mile or two out of La Fortuna which makes it quiet and not as busy. Nice pool with the river right there in case you want to take a dip. Would highly recommend this place.

“Best in La Fortuna”

This hotel by far exceeded my expectations! The owners Gabriel and Ligia are genuine people and the hotel had a bed and breakfast personal feel to it. We couldn't be more pleased wtih our stay. If you are looking for a natural beautiful setting that's not comercialized and concreted over, then this is the place. There are toucans, poison dart frogs, humming birds all on the property. The little shed that looks like it's up against the trees in the picture, is actually about 10 feet away from a little river with a bbq pit. Me and my girlfriend kept saying how lucky we were to stay here rather than any other place in town. You will definitely enjoy your stay here. After a day of hiking or rafting, you can go back to the hotel grill up some steaks and drink some beer right next to the river. There is also a bon fire pit available. there are no other hotels in the area with these accomidations. It was awesome!

“Authentic Costa Rican experience”

If you are looking for an authentic Costa Rican vacation, this is the place for you. Located a few km outside of the busy city of La Fortuna we felt very safe and comfortable. We were the only guests on our 3 night stay so we were surrounded by all the beauty and peacefulness of this amazing country and had a gorgeous view of the volcano Arenal. Our hosts were amazing!! An honest, hard working family that takes great pride in their property. Breakfast and coffee each morning was delicious! The room was clean and comfortable. Our hosts went to great lengths to make everything perfect. My only wish is that I would have practiced my Spanish a little before I came so that I could have had more conversation with our hosts. But through a little Spanglish and sign language, we were able to figure it all out. Next time we visit Costa Rica we will definitely stay here again!

“Wonderful hospitality and brand new rooms with a pool”

Lavas de Arenal was a wonderful surprise as we were warmly welcomed by the kind owners. The quiet, clean & comfortable rooms were new (only a couple months old, and had air conditioning). The poolside setting was lovingly landscaped next to a river and backing onto a biological reserve. We weren't there a few minutes before hummingbirds were buzzing around us and toucans were calling from the trees. We saw poison dart frogs there too. We appreciated that this secure spot was a short drive outside of La Fortuna because the town itself was a bit touristy & hectic, and safe parking seemed scarce on the main streets of town. Be forewarned that Lavas de Arenal is actually in the small village of El Bosque. It is about 5-10 minutes south of La Fortuna a short distance down a paved road to the west off route 134 (Route 134 leads to San Pedro, Le Tigre, and then down to the Interamericana Highway Rte 1). There are plenty of Lavas de Arenal signs along route 134 to help guide you there. You can hike into the biological reserve just down the street from the hotel, and they have drinks available for purchase at the hotel, but you will have to drive into La Fortuna for food or most other amenities. We really enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it for those with a car seeking clean, quiet, friendly and affordable accommodations near Arenal volcano.

“great simple, off the beaten path hotel”

This hotel was great. It was simple & comforting. The town of La Fortuna was busy and somewhat confusing to anyone not a Tico. The hotel is just a few minutes outside of town in a beautiful location. There is a beautiful little creek that runs behind the hotel. The hotel owner makes breakfast for you every morning. The breakfast consisted of juice, coffee, eggs, potatoes, toast, and ham. They were also very helpful arranging local tourist events for us and were able to get discounts.

“Friendly family hotel”

Lavas del Arenal is a small, family run hotel. The hosts could not do enough for us and we were incorporated into the family! We will definitley go back.

“Nice relaxing environment”

Owned by an extremely friendly Costa Rican family Hotel Lavas del Arenal is a great place to stay. Wake up and stroll out to the pavilion where a fresh homecooked tico breakfast will be fixed to your desire. A small stream flows behind the property and humming birds can be seen in great numbers feeding on the flowers that are planted throughout the hotel grounds. It is about 4 km out of La Fortuna so if you are without a personal vehicle taxi rides to and from town will be necessary unless you like walking.
