Picturesque house in 17th century village, with privacy, pool and views

This bright, sunny, tastefully renovated house with private patio, pool and exquisite views to the Mediterranean is situated in a charming medieval village nestled among the vineyards near the wonderfully historic towns of Pezenas and Béziers . The house has two bedrooms upstairs, one with private balcony, both with southerly views. The open concept living and dining rooms and the kitchen open directly onto the patio and private pool area. Located in the beautiful Languedoc region, just 1/2-hour's drive from the beaches and fishing villages of the Mediterranean, this is quintessential wine country with rolling hills, tree-lined roads and vineyards as far as the eye can see. Shop in the colorful outdoor markets, enjoy top notch local fare in area restaurants or savour the fresh bounty of the Mediterranean sea and the flavors of the local wines and olive oil on the patio. Relax in true Mediterranean style, or keep busy with hiking, cycling, sightseeing, kayaking or golfing.

A Gem of A Property
We loved our stay at Maison Candide! It was the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the sun. The villa was well equipped and it was great to have a good selection of the basics (olive oil, herbs, washing powder etc) in the cupboards on arrival. The pool was a great hit with the whole family and the perfect way to cool off in the heat. Roquessels is a very quiet village with some lovely walks. We tried a few different boulangeries before eventually settling on Le Fournil de Benjamin opposite Hyper U in Roujan. We would definitely visit again!

Idyllic Rural Retreat
We have just returned having spent the most wonderful time at Maison Candide. Located in the quiet small village of Roquessels it is perfect for those that are looking for privacy and rural tranquility. The house is perfectly equipped even for the strict self-caterers having everything you could possibly need. Not for everyone, but having Freesat TV with all the regular English channels means that those who wish to keep up with what’s happening back home can do so. A car is essential since there is no Boulangerie, shops or restaurants in the village. Nearest Boulangerie is an 8 minute drive to Gabian. For your supermarket Roujan is just a further 7 mins on. Out and about there are so many Caveau’s to visit. Try the local “Trinities” in Roquessels or visit Faugeres, Neffies or Fontes for your Rose. You are literally spoilt for choice. Pezenas is just 20 minutes away and in 35 minutes you can be in Meze or Bouzigues. Eglantine made sure that we were aware of everything ahead of our arrival and also dealt with the problem of a broken washing machine very promptly. Within 3 days of letting her know of the problem a new one was installed and running. Fantastic service which we truly appreciated. If you want to enjoy the beauty of this part of France and get away from it all this is just perfect.

Lovely house in quiet village
Really super house in very peaceful rural location. Amazing views from the terrace. Swimming pool was great - especially during the heat wave. A real home from home. Eglantine has thought of everything. Close to lots of lovely little towns and only 25 mins to Pezenas - a must! Can’t wait to return.

Beautiful location
The property itself is delightful, very quintessentially French but with all the mod cons ( the air con was a welcome addition as was the English t.v channels for when it rained!) the views from the Villa are just stunning. The pool is small but the owner is clear about that on the description and it kept our two children entertained (11 and 9). The village is very peaceful and everyone we met was friendly. The surrounding areas are full of rolling hills, vineyards and sleepy villages. You definitely need a car to travel round. We visited several beaches, all were within 40-60 mins. We loved Pezenas, such a lively place with plenty of restaurants and beautiful buildings. The owner was really easy to communicate with and left a really handy folder full of useful information about places to visit. If you are looking for a peaceful place, with gorgeous views, that is surrounded by a part of France that feels largely untouched by mass tourism then this is definitely the place to stay.

A month in paradise
We highly recommend staying in this hidden gem. We spend a month in Maison Candide with our infant and everything was taken perfectly care of, from cleaning service to pool, so we could truly enjoy our vacation. Eglantine warmly welcomed us and showed how everything worked, and she was quick to respond whenever we had questions. The house is beautifully decorated well equipped and we hope to return one day soon. Roquessels is a cosy village with friendly people, and a short drive to everything you could need.

A beautiful, idylic and peaceful holiday at Maison Candide
We had the most wonderful, relaxing holiday at Maison Candide. The villa is situated in a beautiful, quiet medieval village set up in the hills surrounded by the most stunning views. The villa is spacious and full of character and charm with some lovely personal touches which caters for all your needs. The pool is a great asset for that quick dip to cool off and the terrace is perfect to sit out and eat and enjoy the views with a glass of local wine.... there is certainly enough choices available to sample in the area as you are surrounded by vine yards! It is one of those places that you can totally switch off to the outside world as it is so peaceful and completely private. There are plenty of places to visit in the area so you definitely need a car to be able to tour around and see all the sites. The owners were so attentive from the moment we booked our holiday and they couldn't have been more helpful with all their tips and advice on places to go and see. We were sad when our holiday came to an end and we look forward to returning again soon.

The house is a home and makes a wonderful quiet space to spend a week. The kitchen was well-equipped so cooking and eating was straight forward. Good to have a modern very clean bathroom, although the separate shower in the bedroom is a little quirky - I was glad there was a proper one! Sitting outside on the terrace is the highlight with the pool readily available for cooling off. It didn't matter to the children that the pool was small as it was deep enough and just big enough to provide plenty of entertainment opportunities. The views from the terrace are just wonderful at every time of day. I loved being up before everyone else and just watching the sun come up and the swallows and martins flying around. The plants all around the terrace on an irrigation system make such a good addition to a holiday rental as so often places are soulless with gardens that are empty so the lush greenery was much appreciated. Roquessels is a small village and a car is essential, but you are near enough to Pezenas (which is beautiful) and other small villages to make little trips out very easy. We didn't venture far, probably because the house was so accommodating and enjoyable to be in that we didn't need to. Pat and Mel were very helpful by email before our trip and answered all our questions promptly and warmly. For a haven of rest and relaxation I would highly recommend this property.

Delightful destination
What a fantastic little place! We had a wonderful week’s holiday based at Maison Candide. It is beautifully presented and a ‘home from home’ with everything you might need provided. The views over the vineyards are stunning. It’s a great location to access a raft of different places and activities, although a car is a must. We would love to return!

Charming, well-equipped cottage full of character and views to die for!
This is our second time at Maison Candide and once again we had a fabulous time. Pat was the perfect host making sure we had all the information we needed and adding her own personal touches which were really appreciated. The house has everything required for a relaxing holiday soaking up french culture. The garden is full of colour and the pool a welcome addition on the hot summer days. We loved waking up with a brew in the garden and ending the day in the same spot with a wine, bliss!! The location is great for strolls around the village and vineyards. A short drive away are numerous costal towns with gorgeous beaches or pretty inland towns and villages. Alternatively, a full day out will take you to Spain or into the Pyrenees. For anyone travelling with kids there’s some great Velorails and water parks nearby to couple with the pool and wifi at the cottage. Many of the beaches are really family orientated too. Perfect for occupying them home and away! Thanks for sharing your beautiful house Pat. x

Southern France Heaven
This is an amazing place to stay - in the heart of southern France with incredible day trips! The space itself is absolutely stunning as are the views! We are all runners in our family & there are no shortage of places to explore. The pool was a delight to come home to & take a dip! The ceiling fans in the bedrooms were much appreciated as it was very warm when we were there. Pat was very easily to communicate with and she did a great job of giving us information well in advance of our visit - about her place as well as about suggestions about what to do while we were staying! We plan to return again!

Charming gite, perfect holiday
Wonderful holiday home, from the minute you open the gate and step through to the garden, it’s an oasis of calm. The house has everything you could need, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Views from the terrace are wonderful and the pool is a delight to come back to for a cooling dip after a day exploring. Perfectly located amongst the vines with views to the Med in the distance and ideal for visiting the region. Lots to see locally and only 45 mins from some super beaches. We’ve left after two wonderful weeks with batteries fully recharged and hoping to return. Highly recommended!

Serene and beautiful home is Southern France
My husband and I spent six blissful days at Maison Candide at the end of June 2018. The house was comfortable and lovely, with all the amenities of home - easy kitchen to cook in, comfy beds and pillows, and relaxed living space. We settled in and had a great time exploring the surrounding villages and countryside. Roquessels is within striking distance of so many great villages and cities and even Spain! Each night we would look out at the beautiful view and listen to the absolute quiet you find only in the country. The pool was refreshing, the patio area was completely private, We left Roquessels feeling rested and refreshed.

Romantic and peaceful
It was our second visit to Maison Candide and as special as the first. The peacefulness and wide open views across the valley for miles, the swifts and swallows swooping overhead, the quiet village make it such a restful place to come. We love the cottage which is so tastefully decorated and has a romantic atmosphere with a personal touch. We didn’t need to use the air-conditioning although it was hot, but the fans were perfect. The pool was kept beautifully clean and is totally un-overlooked and wonderful for frequent dipping in to, to cool off. We love having the spare cloakroom/toilet downstairs as well as the luxurious bathroom plus an excellent shower upstairs. We look forward to another visit next year.

Excellent
We felt at home right from the start. Comfortable, everything we needed , everything worked. The scenery is beautiful and , with the exception of Carcasson ,we were not driving for hours. Moureze ,with it's spectacular rock formations was a favorite ,as was the Lac de Salagou. The view of L'etang de Montady from the iron age fort at Oppidum d'enserune was fab.The Moliere section of the Vuliod Museum was a hoot . What a bad lad he was ! Had some good food and one not so good ,but you can't win them all ! The vendange was at full tilt during our stay and Mel and Pat are aware that there was a bit of a noise problem due to the machinery next door. We would avoid these weeks next time ,but it wouldn't stop us visiting the house and the area again. A lovely holiday and highly recommended .

Lovely house!
We had a great time at Maison Candide, we really appreciated that we were staying in a home where people had taken care in selecting the right furniture and decorations to make the place both charming and habitable. The pool was very refreshing during the hot weather and we had several BBQs on the patio. The village is very small and friendly - we particularly enjoyed talking to the winemakers and seeing the grapes come in from the harvest, also early morning walks up to the castle to see the view.

The perfect relaxing holiday in a wonderful location
What an absolutely delightful and beautiful home this is! We had the perfect holiday at Maison Candide at the beginning of August and could not have wished for anything more. The house is charming and and cosy yet has plenty of space to relax in, open enough for the family to be together without being on top of each other! The views from the patio are breathtaking, and the pool is just the perfect size to relax and cool off in with a glass of the local wine (really local, a 5 minute walk away!). Roquessels is a lovely, quiet village with a population of a little over 100, and has a hidden gem of a chateâu to explore and take in the incredible views. It’s the perfect location for day trips with so many wonderful villages to explore in the area. We simply cannot wait to be back again!

We stayed in Maison Candide for two weeks from end June . The house is very pretty and well equipped with everything you could need for a relaxing break. We loved the fact that is also very private and has a small swimming pool on the terrace. The house is very clean and bed was comfy. A car is essential.

Charming house in a great location
We, a family of four including an 11 year old and 6 year old, have just returned from Maison Candide and we all absolutely loved the charming house. We drove from the UK by car and were looking for somewhere well situated for day trips but isolated enough to feel like we'd completely escaped on days spent at home, Maison Candide is a great balance. Roquessels is a very small village and we had some great peaceful evening walks down the lanes through vineyards or up to the Chateau at the top of the hill. The house was suitable for the 4 of us and the kids loved both the pool and the wifi - which made for a harmonious holiday. The sun stayed on the garden most of the day and the views from the garden & balcony were stunning, the garden is full of colour - so appealing you just want to spend all day there! Once inside, the house is so well equipped that every need is covered and there are enough little zones to feel like you are not living top of each other. There are supermarkets a short car drive away and pretty villages to walk round too. We loved visiting the coast especially nearby Meze where the water is so warm, there's a great choice of restaurants, parking is easy and you can pretend you're rich enough to own one of the boats lining the harbour! We also enjoyed the nearby Velorail and visits to Sete, Adge, Narbonne and Barcelona - it really is a great base point :) Our stay came late July/early August and the weather was consistent throughout the fortnight with temperatures often hitting +30 degrees and the sky being cloudless (I think there was only one cloudy day the whole time we were there and it brought with it a brilliant evening thunderstorm). Pat was very easy to communicate with before and during the stay plus had left lots of useful information whether it be instructions for something at the house or recommendations for local tourism. All in all a great few weeks. Thanks, Liz, Steve, Kayla and Edward xx

The most peaceful place on earth
The best holiday home we've ever stayed in and 2 weeks was not long enough - we will be back! Maison Candide is clearly a loved personalised holiday home, very tastefully decorated and so beautifully romantically French. We immediately felt at home in this quiet location with a magnificent view, wonderful bird-life, hardly ever the sound of a car or person. It was easy to contact the owners at any time, the staff we dealt with were helpful. An older property with character will never be perfect and we enjoyed contributing towards solving minor problems, watering the plants or doing what we would in a home of our own. The pool needed regular topping up, not a problem to us at all. The beds were wonderfully comfortable, lovely bed-linen and towels. The bathroom is lovely, good light and a lovely bath. The wonderful shower is tucked in a corner of bedroom 2 but doesn't spoil the room at all. Parking initially felt cramped but was not a problem. The drive to the U Supermarket was enjoyable and not a problem, with lovely villages along the way. We had our Apple TV which worked beautifully so could rent films. Best of all we could watch Wimbledon as British TV is available, as well as French channels. The BBQ was new and worked well. Wish I was back there...
