Fading grandeur.

Posted Apr 14, 2014
Pros: Convenient location.
Cons: Lots of renovation needed.
Friendly receptionist, nice room with sea view. Good service for evening meal in restaurant. Not so good for breakfast. Needs a lot of expensive work to bring it up to scratch.

Smallest room ever.

Posted Nov 11, 2013
Pros: The car park was immediately outside.
Cons: It's in need of an overhaul inside. The corridor floorboards are incredibly noisy.
We (a couple with baby) arrived at the hotel in the evening and were given the key to our room, on the top floor, can be accessed by the lift. It is an old lift with shutters, very quaint. However, not very good for transporting babies asleep in their pram, the noise of the shutters wakes the baby instantly. We arrive at our room, open it, and it is just big enough to fit in the double bed with some shuffling room around it. They've erected the cot we requested in the only available space which is fair enough, but we can't get past each other at any point around the bed, one has to retreat back into the corridor to the bathroom (now filled with pram) to let the other past. We decide this isn't ideal and go to reception to request another room. Unfortunately there are none available for that night but there should be something else tomorrow, the receptionist will leave a note for tomorrow. Great so we'll put up with tonight and we'll have something better tomorrow. We sleep, wake up, got out for the day, get back in the evening and ask how we're doing on a room change. The only rooms left are "worse" than ours, we should've asked again in the morning. Perfect. So, we asked the previous night, they said they'd sort it and they didn't, pretty basic hotel service fail.

Lovely room with lovely views.

Posted Oct 19, 2013
Pros: Views of the channel and location.
Cons: Prices for breakfast are over the top.
Location: We stayed to be near our daughter in ports head and for my 80th birthday so it was a treat all round . We had a planned agenda with our daughter .
Very welcoming and friendly staff. Breakfast expensive even if the view is lovely, overpriced.

Gross, Really Old Hotel With Incredible View

Posted Oct 1, 2013
Pros: The view.
Cons: The walls, the floors, the elevators, bug spraying, fire alarm, late night food options.
Location: location is beautiful.
Don't be fooled by the photos into thinking this is a quaint, charming old English hotel. It's tragically out of date and desperately in need of some serious work. I walked into my room and there was clumpy, bubbly white moldy type formations all over the wall above the bed and on the ceiling. And there was a spider on my pillow. The floorboards creek. The elevator is annoyingly old (it's an old, manual elevator, where you have to close two wood doors and a metal gate, before it will move). The bathroom stunk, as did other areas. Shockingly, it was full. No question because it's RIGHT on the water, with an incredible view. So it's a situation of trade-offs... All view, and nothing else really. the late night food options were grim, like a lot of english/european hotels. definitely removed from bristol, and in the middle of charming, english country/waterside beauty though. I checked in at 2 a.m. and was awoken six hours later by a defeaning fire alarm, the ancient, school bell fire alarm... it was a false alarm that last FOREVER.

Nice old hotel

Posted Sep 1, 2013
Pros: The character and the position also the cleanliness and the comfort
Cons: I had a prawn salad and if I want to be picky the cucumber skin was tough. I always eat the skin but have never had it so hard before.
Location: The location seem lovely not sure about things to do as only was there one night and moved on before breakfast.
Only stayed one night would stay again if the need arose. the rooms were very big so was the bed and very comfortable. Lovely views over the river.. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Good value hotel in nice location

Posted Jul 23, 2013
The hotel was in a nice location with excellent views and great garden area. Would definately go back again. Only bad side is that the breakfast was not included and was over £10 per person extra if you wanted it. Also the hotel decor is seriously in need of updating.

Old fashined abd comfortable

Posted Mar 12, 2013
The decore etc is rather dates and tired, but it's clean and comfortable. Nice views across the Bristol channel, a lovely spot in the summer I'm sure. Dinner was very dissapointing fo the price, but the breakfast was good.

A good place to stay

Posted Feb 20, 2013
Pros: The staff.
Cons: Bar was a bit dull - wrong lighting or carpets, not really sure.
Location: Fabulous
I've read previous reveiws of the Walton about it being a bit dated and its true - but is that the charm of the place, why spoil something that has its own character. Its clean and the staff were very polite, without being over the top - great.

Definately ask for a sea view room!

Posted Jul 17, 2012
Pros: Sea View
Cons: Carpet
Location: Brilliant for Clevedon and Portishead
We stayed here for a friends wedding at the close by Clevedon Hall - we didn't get to the hotel until late but the reception was still open and the staff very friendly and cheerful. The hotel is a bit dated with carpets and decor etc but was in reasonable condition. The room was large and the bed faced the amazing views of the sea / channel framed by large windows! Bathroom a bit dated but it did its job no problem. We had breakfast also, the variety and availability was good and again the staff very friendly and replenished the cooked breakfast items quickly. We would stay here again when visitng friends close by.
