Small hotel outside of downtown.
Stayed here after a lions game. Great place. These are comfortable, medium to long stay units rented out for competitive nightly rates. The interior is simple, but I was wanting for nothing. We had a queen bed, table with two chairs, kitchenette with full sized fridge, gas 4-burner stove, sink and silverware. Bathroom was well stocked with the standard toiletries and towels. There was no tub, but that wasn’t an issue. I do have to say that Veterans Park Hotel has, by far, the most comfortable pillows I have ever come acroas in a hotel. Notes: it is listed on the booking page but it looks like some of the other reviewers missed it, the front desk is not staffed 24/7. This makes sense because it does look more like a medium/long stay place. All you have to do is call the owner when you’re about 5 minutes out and he will meet you there. Also of note, there was a $150 deposit/room that was refunded promptly after check out.

My stay on this hotel was wonderful, the owner very understanding as long as you follow rules. Me and my boyfriend stayed for 7 days we had a very relaxing getaway and being the clean freak I am I can assure that this place was impeccable. No dust at all. Perfect hotel for a long stay.

Room was small, but we knew it. Room was too hot, had to open window in November. Walls could have insulation, as could hear neighbor talking & coughing. But for the price, was not dispapointed.

Very nice efficiency apartment in cute small town
The remodeled building is spotlessly clean! Great use of space in the apartments, which had new bathrooms and kitchen facilities. Located next to a lovely community park, the building felt safe and secure. Hamtramck was an international experience. We enjoyed a Polish dinner and an Yeman breakfast. We saw a play at the Fox, and it was a short Uber ride to the theater. I would definitely stay here again.

The place is clean and the owner looks after the property. The people in the community have their own patrol protecting the area. We felt very save and walked to the store at 12:30 am by myself with no issues.

Affordable And clean hotel minutes from downtown
Clean and comfortable, simple hotel room close to downtown. It is about a $10 Uber from downtown. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The only problem was the heat was way too hot. I figure it was the first time heat was needed and the thermostat and heater needs to be dialed in. Neighbors were a little louder this visit but not crazily so.

Overall, a great place. Close to downtown, clean, and decent amenities in the room. It's a little hard to find, but it's right next to a park which makes the stay feel more pleasant. Feels very safe and secure. I wish there had been temperature controls in the room though - it got really hot with the fridge running.

"Book...Cover" the saying goes, but take a chance!
Surprisingly good. At first the area looked sketchy and we wondered what we got ourselves into. Then we took a chance and went in, met the owner and our concerns were addressed and answered to the positive. Eric takes great care with the small smoke-free hotel that looks nondescript on the front but sits next to a cute well kept little park (The Veteran's Park, hence the hotel name). The rooms were spotless (much more than in fancier places) and thoughtfully put together, maintained and stocked. He was quickly responsive to the couple of needs we had (lives down the street) and recommended a very friendly ethnic restaurant nearby with good food. Overall, unless you need snooty fancy, and in spite of a location seemingly near a deserted industrial area on one side (other direction is a nice eastern european community area), the area was actually quite safe with a little gem of a value hotel run by a conscientious owner that I hope people will take a chance on. Be adventurous and get a pleasant surprise and very good value.

Nice little gem of a hotel with a homely room!
Had some work downtown Detroit with family and wanted a safe area to stay. Only 10mins to get to downtown from this location. The location area is nice, its right next door to the park and there's a super market right next door as well and some nice Middle Eastern Eateries. Parking is on the street, but good thing is if you park in front of the hotel, there are CC cameras and well lit area for added security. Room and bathroom was nice and clean and the bed was comfortable with plush pillows. The Refrigerator and the gas stove is a plus as well as the microwave. From the outside you can't really tell its a hotel, which is good to give it that low key appearance, but once you inside it looks legit. You won't find a reception desk, but the owner is available 24/7 shall you need him. Lives nearby for assistance. Overall, if I had to stay in Detroit, I would choose this place for its price, convienience and comfort. Family felt safe and finding places to eat is not a problem in this area, some really nice restaurants to choose from.

A Surprising Hotel Away From It All
Veterans Park Hotel is located literally right next to the Veterans Park in Hamtramck, a predominantly Middle Eastern neighborhood with many friendly people. I chose this hotel because I simply needed a place to stay overnight after a concert. It was very clean and seemed like it was recently remodeled. I loved the bathroom design. However, there was a slight problem in that the bathroom door in my room didn't close, but since I was traveling alone, it was no big deal. The wifi was much faster than the average hotel. The owner was very hospitable and helped me walk through the unconventional check-in process over the phone. The little kitchenette was pretty well stocked, but I didn't need to use it at all. All in all, it was a very cost-effective hotel and always felt very safe. I simply took an Uber back from my concert in downtown Detroit and was back within 10 minutes.

Nice affordable clean hotel
I did not spend lots of time in the hotel, but it was comfortable. The bed and pillows were really comfy. The stove, microwave, and fridge were nice to have. The bathroom was a little small. i could hear one neighbor for a short bit, but not very long. There was construction on the road outside. Of note, there is very limited cab service in the area. You need to contact the hotel in advance to arrange getting in as there is no front desk.

This is more of a story than a review but anyway, here goes: By far the worst "Hotel" I've ever seen. it's a two story building in the middle of a bad neighborhood. When i booked my room i thought it was going to be decent considering i paid around $85 for a night but there were no signs for this hotel anywhere near it. It's also right in front of a dumpster. There's no front desk, so after looking for the hotel for 20 minutes I asked the locals and nobody seemed to know where this so called hotel is located at, until one person who lived across the street from it pointed to the building. I called the owner and he said he'll be there in 10 minutes. after 15 minutes the guy shows up, i tell him that i have to leave since i was late to a show in Joe Louis Arena (that's why i booked this hotel, since it's fairly close to the arena) and that my mom will be staying in the room while i'm gone. I told him that i'll finish the paperwork once i get back. My mom was visiting me from overseas and she doesn't really speak English so she didn't know she couldn't smoke in the room. she lit up the cigarette and within 5 minutes the owner shows up saying something about finishing the paperwork (even though i specifically told him i'll finish it myself when i'm done) He smells the room and demands my mom to leave the room. when she didn't comply HE CALLED THE COPS ON HER. If this was a decent hotel he would've charged a cleaning fee or something instead of being this disrespectful to his tena

Stayed one night for a concert at the Ford Field which is less than 10 minutes away. The surrounding area of the hotel seemed really sketchy at first, I'm a young female so I was hesitant to walk around by myself but after exploring, I found it to be quite the opposite. The roads infront of the hotel are under heavy construction with streets blocked off so it was difficult to locate and get to at first. The hotel itself was very clean with a kitchenette, large TV and cute bedding. The owner was very friendly and obliging. My only complaints are the A/C isnt very cold and the room could use a painting or two to feel a little more "homey." Overall, good experience and I would stay here again.

A Great Deal in the Heart of Detroit
Don't want to stay downtown or out in the burbs? This is probably your ONLY choice to safely and cleanly stay in the neighborhoods. While technically in Hamtramick, it is essentially in the center of Detroit. This is not like a traditional hotel. It is more like a small apartment but VERY clean and comfortable. While I was there, it was VERY quiet inside the room. If you are not a culturally tolerant person, you should know ahead of time that there are a lot of Muslims in this neighborhood and many of the women are the kind that cover their entire face except for the eyes. This does not bother me at all but I know that some would be surprised by this if they didn't know ahead of time. While the neighborhood was definitely not upscale, it was not terribly run down either. I would call it a working class neighborhood that seemed to be safe. There were several people who said hello to me out on the street even though they didn't know me. You should also know that there is no front desk or on-duty staff. The owner will come and check you in after 3 pm. For the money, you can't beat this.

Not a real hotel
Expedia sent me a note saying that the reservation was confirmed. I missed the fine print saying that I needed to contact the hotel in advance to get instructions on how to get inside. My taxi dropped me off and I realized that none of the doors had handles and there was no doorbell or buzzer in sight! I looked up the hotel online and found a phone number. The owner answered with "Hello?" but not a normal business greeting. He told me to wait five minutes and drove up in ten. He explained that my card had been declined so he never sent me an email that normally goes to guests with entrance instructions. He showed me an unmarked metal door with a code lock. The "hotel" looks like a small apartment building. There are no on site staff, and I didn't notice any security cameras in the hallways. The door rooms only have a door handle lock, but no deadbolt. I felt safe, but a lone female traveler might not. The room was basically an efficiency apartment. The furniture and bedding are IKEA basic stuff. I had reserved a queen bed but the only room available had two double beds. The neighborhood seemed relatively safe, but also typically run-down Detroit (strip malls with dollar stores and torn up streets). The biggest problem was that it does not seem to be regularly services by cab companies. The main company told me there would be a 2 HOUR wait, and the others said they didn't do pickups from there, only drop-offs. I got an Uber very quickly though. The room itself was clean.
You get inside with the door on the right!

As other review I read stated, as long as you're ok with a not-so attractive outside, the inside is great for the price. If you're not super brave, don't arrive after dark. It's not that we had any issues, it's just visually scary looking from the outside. Two women traveling, and we stayed two nights. Eric was a great help giving us advice on what to sight-see, where to go, very friendly and helpful. It's just that the neighborhood and immediate area are really run down in spots. I would use the place again though, depending on how flexible the people are that you're traveling with!

I came in for Paczki Day festivities and to visit my mom. This hotel is a great find; more of an efficiency apartment, clean as a whistle, and as I am very familiar with Hamtramck, perfect for my purposes. I was only there for one night, so I didn't make the most of the kitchenette in the apartment, but I was very impressed. Everything was clean and new, the price was pretty reasonable, and the owner was very accommodating. The neighborhood is working class but seems perfectly fine. If you have business in Hamtramck, the Veterans Park Hotel is ideal, especially if you might be staying longer. It should be an affordable and convenient place to stay for visiting Detroit proper, too, as long as you have a car.

Affordable option for long or short stays!
A great, affordable option for those who don't need frills. The room was very clean, included a full-sized fridge, microwave, and stove, which makes it great if you want to save money on food by eating in. The heating was fantastic, and the bed was much more comfortable than most hotels I've stayed at (and I'm a pretty seasoned traveller). It does take some effort to coordinate check-in with the proprietor (there's no front desk), but it's nice just having a keypad entry to the building and then a key to your individual room. Street parking directly in front of the building was never an issue. Located just outside the city, perfect distance if you have a car, still easily accessible to all the popular sites. Located in a pretty residential neighborhood, so it's not an area to casually walk around and explore. But does have some great Polish bakeries and local record shops nearby!

Great place, super close to downtown.
This is a lovely little place with all the amenities you would need. The room was furnished nicely with a very large closet. The heat worked well too. I would say though, that it needs curtains instead of blinds. I like it dark when I sleep and the lights in the park seeped right in the blinds. The price was excellent for the clean and well put-together room we had. I was worried about leaving our car parked out on the street, but really the neighborhood was not as scary as it looked when we came in at 10pm. Right down the street is a grocery store so you can put the kitchen in the room to use. There is no front desk but the man I spoke with was very friendly and very helpful. Super close to downtown Detroit, but a very good price. I am planning to stay her next time we come to Detroit.

Gem of a Hotel, make plans in advance for entry.
This is not your ordinary hotel, there is no reception desk, but It is a gem of a place to stay. Well worth the price, the hotel seems newly renovated. My only negative feed back would be I was left one of my nights with no way into the hotel because no one would answer the phone for the door access code. I was still charged for my night in my truck, but over all it was a good stay.

Rare gem in the Detroit metro
I had this Italian review of this hotel translated titled "Bunkered Down in the Ghetto"! In response to that bigoted review: Yes, this hotel stands out in a very working-class neighborhood with lots of Brown people, including women in hijabs with niqabs and men with kufi caps. However, I am a working-class Black woman who doesn't have a problem with that. On top of a kitchenette with a two-chair dining table, the suite was near-luxury level in style and decor: Great bathroom with huge shower stall made with large stone tile, gorgeously made-up bed, and a huge closet with mirrored sliding doors. Now to some quibbles: 1. The door to my suite was secured with only a doorknob lock; there should be an additional lock on the door, like a deadbolt, for better security. 2. The hallway was dark at night, lit only by "EXIT" signs. 3. The one window in my suite had horizontal blinds but no curtains; the window really needs opaque curtains to block out the sun. Furthermore, the price I paid for this suite was well under $100 a night! An easy 10 minutes south is the wonderfully revitalized downtown Detroit: a forest of classic brick skyscrapers that have been renovated and put back to use, possibly the largest convention/civic center I've ever seen (Cobo Center), great places to eat, and a beautiful riverfront walk.

I was staying in Detroit for the weekend and this was more like renting a studio apartment than a hotel room, which was nice. I was impressed with the full-size fridge, microwave, gas range, and kitchenette in the room. The room was very clean. I don't know if this place is under new management or what, but they were remodeling in the building although it looked like the upstairs was mostly done (I was on the first floor). It'll be a really nice place once they're done with everything. There is no front desk, but I didn't have any problem contacting the proprietor and setting up a time to check in.

We overall really enjoyed our stay. The room was very clean, everything was recently renovated, and the location was great. Check-in process was a little unusual, since there's no front desk, but we just called ahead and it went smoothly. It was nice having the kitchenette in the room, and they'd gone to the trouble of stocking it with dishes, a teakettle and tea, etc. One drawback was that the walls are very thin, so when the people in the next room had their TV on we could hear it VERY clearly. Also, although there's a thermostat in the room the AC didn't seem to be working, so it was very stuffy. All in all, though, a very pleasant stay -- clean, felt safe, and was within an easy 15-minute drive of everywhere we wanted to go.

If you are looking to avoid high priced dime a dozen hotels in Detroit with $40 parking and want a unique experience this is it. Also, there are plenty of authentic International restaurants near by. Rooms very clean, very eclectic neighborhood. Within short drives to everything in Detroit from Eastern Market to Detroit Art Institute, Motown museum. Very quiet building, very secure, next to a small park. Owner/operator very sincere and willing to do whatever to please. Would stay there again. downsides - nothing to sit things on in the shower, issues with air conditioning. I think as the owner continues to renovate more of the building, amenities will improve.
