There's a first time for everything!
We booked a double but got two singles and only one bedside table and lamp with no overhead light, making it difficult for two people to read. The TV did not work which limited the options. Both main courses were very dried out. The waiter was rude when I asked for sugar for my coffee. The first time that we have opted not to stay for a second night pre-booked.

Since you have been very upset, I agreed not to charge you for the second night, so you can leave one day early. Concerning the restaurant, I already spoke to our chef and food and beverage manager, in order to prevent those struggles to happen in future. Excellent Hotel for Route A2 and Movie Park
Excellent opulent looking Hotel if travelling on the Route 2 through Germany and you need a stop over for the Movie Park. Staff very welcoming, professional, friendly and multi lingual. Booking in was very fast. Rooms are large, clean and comfortable. No tea or coffee making facility in the room and Buffet Breakfast was plentiful, (but barely warm) though that was not a show stopper due to the large choice. Overall, excellent stay and will book again. Note: If planning to drive around the area away from the hotel, it is a Green Zone area so you may need a German Environmental Badge for your car (get one before you travel using the app).

Good Hotel,But could be much Better
Stayed for 5 nights in the Van der Valk in Gladbeck,check in was ok friendly etc.Room was a bit dark and lighting wasn't really good enough for working ,reading in.In places the hotel really need a refresh as a few thing looked tired ie some carpets broken lift and non working vending machine. The biggest let down was the food for dinner in the restaurant in the evening. A very restrictive menu and over cooked food dried vegetables and chips with everything went someway to pulling down the standard of the hotel. On the plus side the hotel is really easy to get to off the Autobahn and has a large car park lit with no issues. If I have to stay again in Gladbeck,I think I will look for somewhere not so far off the beaten track and with a better standard of food.

The rooms are very old and need to be redoing. Also i asked for iron and they couldnt find the one! the hotel owns, one is needed in every room!

Great stop-over hotel
We were driving from London to Denmark and stayed in Gladbeck on the way. The staff was nice and super helpful. The hotel offers a huge parking area which seems safe enough. The hotel is very close to both the Autobahn and a trainline, so do not a super quiet location. The rooms are not air conditioned and if you need to open the window/balcony door, expect a fair amount of noise. On the other hand as it is close to the motorway, you are back on it in 2 mins once you leave the hotel and Gladbeck offers both cheap fuel and supermarkets if you need to resupply before continuing your journey.

Booked an upgraded Deluxe room. The room is big but with many outdated "designer" touches that might be cool in 80s but are desperately outdated nowadays. I wish I had a smaller room - this big one was impossible to heat despite a battery turned on full setting and an additional electric forced air heater. It was -3 outside. There are free drinks that come with an upgraded room ( juices, beers) but I have never seen a German hotel without a kettle. Until now. I didn't want to have a breakfast in the morning so I tried to get coffee. The hotel info book states something like: "our spacious lobby is a nice place to hang around and enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of homemade cake". What it didn't say - BRING YOUR OWN COFFEE AND CAKE. I asked at the reception where I can get coffee. They directed me to the restaurant. I went to the restaurant where the breakfast was served at the moment. I explained that I just want to buy two cups of coffee but no breakfast. I was looked at like I just arrived from the moon. Finally the waitress allowed me to get two cups of coffee from the automatic machine. There were no options for coffee WITHOUT milk. I am lactose intolerant but the headache from having no caffeine was prevailing and I got two cups. It was the most atrociously bitter-sour coffee I ever tried. No amount of milk could remedy it.

Great hotel! Beautiful room interior. Clean. Big bath + Italian shower. Coffee-tea. £0 sec access from the motorway. rich breakfast . Silent and cosy. Just one neg remark - pillow is awful. But definitely come back again (with own pillow).

Solid functional hotel
Stayed for a week in October. The hotel was fine with respect to polite staff and efficient systems but it definitely is a traditional hotel that lacks any flair or attractive qualities about the decor / carpets / bedrooms etc. The high point is the restaurant of an evening which is more attractive than the rest of the hotel and served some nice meals, however, I found the food quality at breakfast was much lower. One thing to note is that although the reception staff spoke reasonable English the majority of the staff in the restaurant and elsewhere just spoke German and the signage and menus were all just in German. Fortunately I speak enough German to get by but it could be a little awkward if you don't speak any German at all. One thing that amused me - I bought a little Christmas bauble gift from the Van der Valk shop and having asked if they had a gift box for it (to which they said yes) the receptionist extracted a toilet roll from the draw and used some toilet paper to wrap the bauble up and place it in a cardboard box and then place in a nice Van der Valk bag! Another instance of functional rather than attractive.
