Choose one or more items to build your trip:
Marvel at the flowers which blossom in a rainbow of colors against a mountain backdrop, and sample lavender-infused ice cream while you look around a lavender distillery.

On an island famed throughout Japan for its flower fields, visit Farm Tomita, home to some of the most beautiful displays of wildflowers. During the blooming season, fields dazzle in vivid hues of blue, purple, red, white and yellow, creating picture-perfect images. Stroll between 13 themed areas which spread across a hillside in the shadow of Mount Tokachi. Browse lavender inspired art work and shop for lavender oils.

Paths frame the fields, allowing you to get up close to the flowers and smell their sweet aromas. Read the information signs to learn the names of each flower. Past the main entrance, the Hanabito Field is a multicolored exhibition of grape hyacinth, marigolds, violas and other perpetual flowers planted in curving rows. See examples of climbing, ornamental and perennial plants in the seasonal gardens.

At the top of the farm, carpets of different lavender varieties flow downhill and contrast wonderfully with the distant mountains. Walk amid a forest of white birch trees and appreciate the poppies of the Hilltop Field. Purple lavender, red poppies and pink garden catchflies are among the seven flowers that produce the undulating rainbow-like effect of the Irodori Field. Get your camera out to snap shots worthy of a travel brochure.

Visit the Distillery Workshop to watch as machinery removes an amber-colored oil from lavenders. This is used to produce the lavender-infused oil, perfume, potpourri and soap available to buy at the farm’s shops. Sample lavender-flavored food such as cheesecake, ice cream, macarons and milk candy. The farm’s cafés also serve lavender coffees, juices and teas.

Farm Tomita is open year round and admission is free. The best time to visit is between June and August, when the flowers are in full bloom. Travel here on a Furano Line train to Nakafurano’s Lavender-Farm station and then walk for 5 minutes. The farm is a 1-hour drive from Asahikawa and drivers can use the free car park.
