Skip’s Rustic River Cabin near Okefenokee Swamp

The river is calling your name! Answer the call at Skip’s River Cabin on the Upper St. Marys River between Folkston and St. George, Georgia. Sits right at the river’s edge, the cabin is the perfect home away from home for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.
Located just 3 miles from the East entrance to the legendary Okefenokee Swamp, this retreat serves up a bounty of fishing opportunities. Bring your small boat or just enjoy swimming, kayaking, and canoeing the beautiful St Marys River.

Important note: The St Mary’s river floods every other other year or so and when it does, the road in can be impassable. There are two options: I can make arrangements to have canoes there for you to load and paddle a short distance to the cabin or you will need to cancel as the guest and get a full refund. We know several days in advance when its going to flood and I will let you know as sops as I see I will flood. It’s actually my wife and my favorite time to go during the rare flood. It’s an island paradise and an incredible adventure. (-:

This was a great location to get away from the busyness of life and get a fresh start. I have to say I wasn't prepared for the sulfur water. It would have been nice to know that it is a good idea to bring bottled water.

Beautiful views and loved the porches. It was clean and well appointed (except we could have used a cutting board and couldn't find one). We enjoyed our stay very much.

Roughing in style
The property is very rural, about 2 miles from the nearest paved road, (leave the sports car at home, it won't make it on the sand road, though my Toyota camry made it.) The house is on stilts with a significant climb up stairs. When you get inside it's cozy. A nice little living room and dining area, with a nice kitchen with plenty of pots pans and utensils. There's a wrap-around porch to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. And the scenery is beautiful. There's also a grill and a fire pit. We enjoyed our stay and wished we had more time there.

Tight quarters cold showers
Property was nice with it being on the river but the bedrooms are very small and no room for luggage. Shower only has hot water for about 2 minutes then pure cold. The porches were very nice. The cabin was crowded with 4 adults and a dog. We left 3 days early.

10 star worthy stay and 20 star host!
We had a small country wedding at Skips cabin . Check in was easy. Skips directions were perfect. He was there to show us all the need to knows and available any time we needed. The photos of the cabin don't due it justice. For anyone looking for a quiet get away this is beyond perfect. I say everyone should stay at Skips and experience the southern hospitality unmatched anywhere else and maybe youl will be lucky enough to catch the rain from a front porch rocking chair !! Skip we can't thank you enough it's been a pleasure!

Peaceful
Fun place to stay, out of the way, did take some trying to find it but had a great time. Weather was cool and rainy, perfect to grill and chill in the evening and listen to the rain on the tin in the morning with coffee. Being entertained by the deer and the birds is such a nice change from the rat race everywhere else. Rustic and simple but clean and comfortable. Came for a short stay but will be back to stay longer. Thanks for everything!

Great location
So nice to be right on the river and a very short drive from Okefenokee. It is rustic - as advertised - but if you are after quiet beauty and a good location this is your place. Be sure and get best directions from the host and don’t rely on GPS. We would have surely been lost without his help.

Peaceful Refuge Near Okefenokee
We wanted a cabin near the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge and swamp. Skip's Rustic Cabin was close enough to use for our daily launch and it being on the St. Mary's River was a plus. It provided us with a peaceful refuge to relax. I really enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the birds and squirrels. Also, we enjoyed evening meals in the coolness of the screened in back porch. My wife said she was going to miss this place when we left. We are already considering coming back.

Retreat by St. Mary's River
Sitting on the porch in rockers watching the St. Mary's River flow by is great! The house is funky, functional and down-homey. The surroundings residents are welcoming and friendly. It's a quick drive to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and the town of Folkston which has a great grocery store and anything else you might need. We enjoyed our stay.

We actually found our way to Skips cabin in the dark.. I would not advise anyone of doing this as a first time visitor.. The cabin was wonderful, perfect for our needs.. There were foam mattresses on the bed which helped me sleep deeply and comfortably.. we had breakfast on the back porch overlooking the river has the fishermen and paddle boarders floated by.. Thanks Skip for guiding us in
