Fort Worth Stockyards showing a festival, land animals and horseriding
Get a feel for the rancher lifestyle amid the historic buildings, Western saloons and former stockyards of this one-time cowboy haunt in the Old West.

The Fort Worth Stockyards is an area that celebrates the city’s cattle ranching traditions. Enjoy a fun and nostalgic day out surrounded by an array of themed entertainment venues and shops as well as a dedicated museum. Stop for a drink at an old-fashioned saloon to feel as though you’re part of a Western movie.

For an understanding of the Old West and its impact on the area, stop at the Stockyards Museum. Admire the vintage documents, artifacts and photos that give you a sense of what the district was once like. Learn about the Native American side of the history here and see a light bulb that has been burning for more than a century. Consider the rich cattle history of Fort Worth, which was nicknamed Cowtown during the 19th century.

Back on the streets outside, walk along the brick paths next to wooden corrals that were part of the former stockyards. Attend the Fort Worth Herd Twice Daily Cattle Drive and snap photos with the drovers, before or after they herd the steers through the town. In summer, a professional rodeo series provides visitors with a glimpse of a Texan tradition.

Stay into the evening and go to the many bars and nightclubs, including iconic Billy Bob’s Texas, known as the World’s Largest Honky Tonk. Enjoy country music at the opry weekly festival. To add to the nostalgic Old West theme, stay in a historic inn and rent horses to ride around the district.

Find the Fort Worth Stockyards in the North Side zone, a little north of the city center. Ride the train up to the TexRail Northside Station and walk west for about 15 minutes to get here.

While in the area, make sure to visit its other attractions, including the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, Rodeo Park and the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum.
