About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Secluded Forest Retreat With The Little Devil Track River Running Through.

Open May - November this is a wilderness cabin with beaver, eagles, mink, moose, and silence. We are surrounded by forest all around and our two neighbors are rarely heard from or seen at all. The small river is accessible right out your front door, and kids like to splash, catch and net things!
But so many things to do beckon beyond the cabin property it's almost overwhelming. The Lake Superior Hiking Trail (which runs from Duluth to Canada) is very nearby. Devils Track Lake, a rather large lake has good fishing and swimming is down the road a couple of miles. The galleries, food and music in 'town' are extraordinary. Grand Marais really has become quite a hub for artists of all types. The North House Folk School is a one of a kind craftshop with adult classes and the Gunflint Tavern features local and national talent in a funky intimate atmosphere.
Almost half of the people who stay at our cabin are repeat visitors. When you read our guestbook you can see the fun (and quiet relaxation) unfold for so many, rain or shine.

Secluded getaway
We had a wonderful long weekend in this cozy cabin tucked away in the woods, but still a quick drive to town and lots of great hiking trails. One day it rained, but we were happy to sit by the fire, play games, and watch the rain come down through the big windows. This was our second stay at this cabin and we’d come back again!

A serene spot to explore the North Shore from. Great art, comfy and homey furniture and everything you need (including a wide selection of books and DVD's plus a piano) to make a vacation getaway that is memorable.

Super cute cabin , not far from town but secluded with a water feature in the back. Always had a quick response from owners. Great place to stay! Will definitely be back.

So quiet! We enjoyed sitting on the back porch in the mornings reading books, with the creek babbling in the background. Kitchen was well stocked, linens were nice. Great stereo system. Clean. Easy to go into Grand Marais which was also a plus

Our family enjoyed our first stay and came back this year. It feels like coming home to your family cabin for a summer break. Kids loved paddling in the pond. Brought happy memories from our last stay. Chris is responsive to questions and very accommodating. We would love to come back for another family getaway.

Fantastic setting but needs attention maintenance
Four of us stayed including my mother and mother -in-law who are in their eighties. I did not receive directions on how to get into the cabin before the trip but was able to find the key. A very bold mouse made his presence known that evening. There were no traps in the cabin and when contacting the owner, he said to go buy some. Sleepless night. We got traps the next day and set them but never caught Mickey. We saw evidence of him living there in the pans, kitchen, and the bathroom cubbies. The owner never checked on us again to see if the issue had been resolved. The kitchen was well stocked. Table top not attached to dining table, made for shaky meals and card playing. There is nowhere to unpack and store your clothes so you need to live out of your suitcase for the stay. The setting is quiet, remote, and beautiful. The jacks holding up the cabin look to need attention as well as the deck rail. Again the location was amazing and close enough to Grand Marias and waterfalls...we had wonderful day trips, sightseeing and shopping.

Quiet location, great access to Grand Marais
We really enjoyed this A-Frame on the river. The cabin was clean, spacious, and well-appointed. We stayed for approximately a week, and several friends joined us for a few nights early in the visit. The cabin was comfortable for four people and two dogs. We like to cook when traveling, and the kitchen was well-equipped. The location was extremely quiet - we couldn't hear the road or any neighbors. The river access is really nice, and our dogs enjoyed poking around the stream. It's maybe a 5-10 minute drive down the hill to Grand Marais. We hadn't visited the Grand Marais area or North Shore of Lake Superior before, and were really impressed by the town and location. Multiple excellent restaurants in Grand Marais, and an enormous number of hikes with waterfalls and lake views within a short (20-30 minute) drive. Instructions for check-in and check-out of the cabin were very clear, and all communications with the property owners were easy. Managing the trash and recycling was a little tricky - we weren't able to hit the recycling center in town while they were open, but I think it was complicated by a holiday weekend. Overall, a really great cabin stay - would recommend.

Secluded peaceful getaway
We spent a wonderful relaxing weekend in this beautiful cozy cabin on the river! It was a peaceful and secluded spot but still so close to town and lots of hiking destinations. We enjoyed time reading by the fire in the evening and having coffee on the back deck in the morning. Our daughter and dog had a great time exploring the river. We were so sad to leave!

Great getaway for reading, writing, dogs
We were just far enough from Grand Marais to feel out in the woods but close enough to get in and enjoy the shopping and Whole Foods coop (no relation to the chain). The cabin is comfortable, clean and well appointed. We ate most of our meals there. It’s a perfect place for dogs, and we’ll enjoy biking (her) and golf (him) when we come back during warmer weather.

Loved it!
I am tempted to write a negative review so the property will be available the next time I want to go up to the Grand Marais area but that wouldn’t be fair. The location was perfect for me – it feels isolated and off the beaten path but it’s really close to Grand Marais and to 61 to take you wherever you want to go on the North Shore. The cabin itself was comfortable and clean and a great place to relax. I loved the deck overlooking the babbling river and the wood fire to warm me up after my adventures outside. I loved the VHS collection, although I’d almost forgotten how to use them (be kind—rewind!). It all made for a great trip for with me and my dog.

This property is so perfect for us, the seclusion, the quietness, and the serenity. The cabin is pristine clean, and the. the beds were super comfortable. We had excellent communication with the owners and the instructions and rules were precise. We hope to stay there again. The cabin was way better in person than the VRBO pictures. Love this place.

This was the perfect place for our family to enjoy each other's company and being close to the big lake! We loved the little river in the front of the property, and the kids loved it even more. Adorable cabin on nice piece of property. Listening to the river was enjoyable. One of the biggest selling points for us was the pond area for the kids to swim in, but there was so much algae we didn't know if it would be safe for the kids or dogs so we didn't swim. Few other minor things but other than that it was a nice stay and the owners were accommodating and pleasant.
