Highly recommended
This was the place and space we needed. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets over Lake Superior viewed through glorious windows that framed each day and night in Grand Marais. Our family felt connected and rested - the space naturally brings everyone together. Including our puppy! Thanks for being wonderful hosts.

Beautiful home, beautiful view
I had an amazing weekend in Grand Marais in this beautiful, modern home with a fantastic view of the entire harbor and the lighthouse. Home was well stocked, and even had some puzzles and games. Hosts were always easy to communicate with and even allowed me a late checkout. Highly recommend!

Modern Scandinavian Family Retreat
We loved our stay at the Skyhouse. The property was well appointed with everything we needed for our stay, and the space was comfortable and artsy. The beds were comfortable and we loved the views of the harbor and town from the upper level living room. We especially appreciated the fireplace and sauna during our cold winter weekend stay. This property is now on the top of my list for our next visit to Grand Marais!

The house is so well built. We had stunning views of a large formation of waxwings on and around the house. Great birdwatching right from the topmost floor windows and of course the great Great Lake just beyond.

Scandinavian feel in Northern MN
This property set the bar to its highest level on style. So modern, simple and functional. Adding to that is that it is located in downtown Grand Marais, walkable to everything and close to multiple trails. Amenities were as described and hosts were beyond helpful and communicative. Already planning our next visit!

Great views and great comfort
Really wonderful, unique, and charming location! Very clean with all the comforts of home. The rooms feel very private and almost no sound carries between levels. We brought our 2 year old and he is very cautious, but the space would probably be better for children who can be safe on stairs. The hosts have so many unique touches to the property and the skyhouse has an unparalled view of the harbor. Extremely convienient and walkable to all the restaurants and sights in town. Highly recommend.

North Shore getaway
This property was perfect for our visit to the north shore. Comfortably slept 4 adults and had every amenity we could have asked for. The views of the harbor were expansive. We will be planning a return trip!

The view is the art
The stunning enormous windows which feature the lake are the main attraction. It was breathtakingly cold while we stayed - highs of minus 4 Fahrenheit - but the sun through the windows made our afternoon admiring the view warm and cozy. We can’t wait to stay again!

The best rental in Grand Marais
Really nothing but good stuff to say about this rental. It’s relatively new, super cool design and layout… AMAZING view of GM and the harbor, the pics do not lie, and super convenient. We did a little extra cleaning when arriving, but that’s more us, we do l that everywhere we stay. One of the bedroom comforters smelled a little stale. Luckily there is a full laundry room in the unit, so that was an easy fix. Easy walk into GM and restaurants, it also has an A/C that was definitely needed on a couple of days. Loved it, will stay again!!

Perfect Grand Marais Spot
Todd and Susan have a well-appointed home a block and a half from The Angry Trout or Java Moose? The home itself has all the creature comforts, many of which are unusual to find in a VRBO. Other than a seagull fledgling with protective parents, the stay could not have been better.

Sorry about the angry sea gull parents! The are a protected species when they are nesting so all we can do is try to enjoy the show. They started out with two chicks are are down to one. Short stay in Grand Marais
My family and I wanted take a trip up the North Shore and we were lucky enough to find this gem on VRBO. The house was cozy and perfectly situated in the middle of town with great views of the harbor and close proximity to the stores and restaurants. We brought our dog too so it was nice this property is pet friendly. Would definitely recommend to others!

Tranquility overlooking bay
Five stars. After coming back from a Superior trail hike we would just sit and take in the view. You are so close to the water you can watch the boats come in and out of the harbor. Three outside sitting areas to home, so no matter which way the wind was from, you could find a great spot. Attention to detail was apparent with the quality of the supplies and the contemporary scandinavian architecture and decor. One short block to downtown Grand Marais, restaurants, coffee and gift shops. We plan to return.

Quick Retreat
Situated in our VRBO perch, like an Eagles nest with 180 degree view of the Grand Marais harbor, we spent two enjoyable nights in this unique, impeccable, three level home. At a low tourism time, we made our way around good restaurants, the must see Trading Post and grabbed some smoked Salmon from Fisherman’s Daughter on our last stop on the way out of town. Fun visit.

This is rental has beautiful views, great walkability to the town, and a well-equipped kitchen. Be aware that there are a lot of steps in the house and that you will need to bring your own cord for the electric vehicle plug in. The owners live next door & were very responsive by text when we had questions.

What a view
Three friends used Sky House as a home base...one person in our group had never been to the north shore. This was a perfect location, spotless, amazing views. Todd was accessible and friendly. Love this place for an upscale north shore visit.

Family trip/birthday celebration
Grand Marais is a wonderful town and the Skyhouse is a beautiful property. It’s an amazing place to stay. We were two couples and an infant who slept in his “pack and play” in our room. Very comfortable for 4 adults. I think it would be less comfortable with 6 adults as two people would have to sleep in the living room/kitchen area. Overall, for our group it was absolutely amazing.

Unique Perspective
Nice views of the harbor and lake. Comfortable bed and spacious walk in shower. The upper floor is the star of the show with a nice kitchen, which we used extensively, and a small deck with seating for four. Dining in also provides great views, hence the title of the review. Not many properties in Grand Marais can claim this view over the city.

Really cool experience
The worst part about staying in a Salmela designed home is going home. It’s a bit of a transformative experience. It’s in the perfect setting of the beloved Grand Marais on top of it. Easy walking distance to everthing and the amenities are well appointed and comfortable. Todd and Susan have thought through everything and subtly share their passion for the area with lots of good info on hikes, shopping etc. We also appreciated how clean it was-especially in these covid times.

The Sky House is fabulous with amazing views
The property is wonderful and Todd and Susan are great hosts. They were in contact to make sure we had what we needed and also gave us some local info. There’s a bedroom with a bathroom on each of the first two floors and shared living/eating space on the top floor that has amazing views of Grand Marais, the harbor, Lake Superior and the whole area in general. The amenities are modern and comfortable. It was perfect for two couples and a dog. We walked by the harbor everyday and drove up the hill to Pincusion Mountain to XC ski and hike the Superior Hiking Trail. Our only note is that there are a lot of stairs. It was great for us, but if you have issues with stairs this isn’t the place for you. We highly recommend the Sky House and will stay again.

Fantastic place!
We had a wonderful stay. Our trip didn't go as planned after a ski injury on the second day but, if you're going to be laid up, this is a great place to be stuck. Bedrooms are super comfortable, kitchen was well equipped, and the views are spectacular. We stay in Grand Marais frequently and now have a new favorite spot!!

Lovely Stay As Always!
This was our second time staying at the Skyhouse and it was just as incredible as the first time. What was noteworthy this time around was Todd and Susan’s thorough COVID-19 precautions to ensure the safety of both their guests and cleaning staff. This made us feel very at ease - it was nice to be able to escape the real world even for just a moment... Thank you again! Can’t wait to return next year!

Fantastic location, well designed house and comfortable for 4
We loved this well designed property and it’s proximity to fantastic hiking and biking. The town was shut down understandably because of the coronavirus which we knew ahead of time, but other visitors can expect to be able to walk to a couple restaurants, shops a brewery and coffee shop. I’m actually thankful that only 4 of our family could come rather than 6. As noted in the description, there are 2 bedrooms. If the 5-6 persons sleep in the living room which opens to the small but well appointed kitchen space, that leaves no other living space for the night owl or early bird in the group. Very comfortable for 2 couples with a bedroom and bathroom on separate floors. Would love to stay here again when North House Folk School reopens.

A fun, modern, architect-designed vacation home with stunningly framed views from the 3rd-floor kitchen/dining/living area. Short walk to nearly any attraction in town, and a few minutes' drive to hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing trails. Comfortable, fun, and convenient.
