Wonderful location and property
I've enjoyed this property once more. The terrace is wonderful, and the rooms are comfortable and spacious. With the change in temperature, it was a shame that the room had no A/C. My main complaint was the amount of mosquitoes that came into my room in one afternoon. It was unbearable.

This hotel is very special. It is located in a leafy, quiet and beautiful area outside the hustle and bustle of Hamburg. The room was huge, and beautifully decorated, on a lovely courtyard. The highlight is the Linden Terrace which looks out on the river. Stunning. Excellent food. Book the restaurant before you arrive as it gets full.

The view by the river Elba was fantastic. The breakfast was excellent. The property’s furniture was dated. We requested a twin bedded room in one of our 2 rooms at least a couple of months before arrival. The hotel responded by saying they would do their best to accommodate our request. On checking in, we were told our booking did not ask for twin bedded room. We would expect for a 5* hotel, this sort of request was not out of the ordinary. If there was nothing available , then they should have informed us when it was requested at the time or before arrival. The response at the check in desk was disappointing. After waiting for well over 45 minutes, we were eventually given a twin bedded room but in our opinion, we should not have to argue with the check in staff with our request. After all, a 5* hotel should be welcoming whatever it takes and not to cause unease with their guests particularly on the day of arrival. We did not expect this from Hotel Jacob!

A dramatic decline in service.
We have been staying at LCJ for 7 years and unfortunately seen a dramatic decline in the last few years. Most of the staff inc reception look like they don’t like working there giving a uneasy atmosphere. Lack of service staff available also meant you had to wait so long to order drinks in the outside area. On checking out there was no one available to help with the bags to the car resulting in us grabbing the porter trolley ourselves and wheeling it with our luggage past reception through the hotel with the staff just ignoring the situation. This would never of happened a few years ago...such a shame because it was an institution in Hamburg in when you stayed there you were made so welcome and it felt special.

Very disappointing unfortunately.
I was really looking forward to my stay at this hotel. Unfortunately it turned out to be spectacularly unimpressive. It's one of those places that believes it's own publicity but in my view fails to live up to it's own standards. The place is just too fussy. Before arrival I had been sent a voucher promising me a room upgrade. I definitely didn't get that upgrade. I'm not actually sure I even got the room I booked. The room was cold, the pillows were paper thin and the blackout curtains were not even big enough for the window they claimed to black out. Wifi is very poor. Fitness centre is too hot. To reach the room I had to use 3 lifts. Apparently I had a €10 food and beverage voucher at my disposal. The reception staff knocked €3.70 off my bill - the price of a bar of chocolate which according to the room service menu is €4.50. They also tried to bill me for 4 breakfasts when I had in fact eaten none. Yes, the place is comfortable and clean. Yes, the decor is tasteful and well presented, but overall this hotel is severely lacking in charm and comfort. There are very many hotels in the Hamburg area which are far better at giving guests what they want with the minimum of fuss than this hotel seems capable of doing. If you really must choose your pillow from a list including cherry stone, flax, horse hair etc. then be my guest but it's not for me I'm afraid. Me, I just want a medium-firm pillow, and the hotel I am in right now has provided exactly that. Without any pretence.

Due to the histocal backround of the Hotel Ensemble it is unavoidable to use different Elevators. We are very sorry for the inconveniece it caused and suggest another room category with river view next time. This rooms are located in the building were the reception desk and Restaurant are located and you only have to choose one Elevator to reach your guest room. Hotel Jacob in Hamburg deserves truly excellent ratings as the hotel is very unique in any regards. The single best hotel experience ever
Our stay at Louis C Jacob was nothing short of amazing. We stayed for 1 night with our two little girls, 2 and 5. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The service was second to none. Our room had been set up with beds for the girls, a little table with sweets, fruit and water. There were also some toys and the most adorable children bathrobes. Finally, special children’s bath bombs and bubbles bath was arranged in the bathroom room. My girls had the time of their lives and felt so special and spoiled thanks to the amazing staff. I can go on as we had a similar experience in the restaurant in the evening but I think it’s clear that Louis C Jacob has my warmest recommendation, both as a couples stay but also if you have brought your children along for the stay.

Upscale hotel with views of the Elbe
Hotel matches Hamburg's upscale persona. Royalty and high powered families have stayed here. Hotel has a lovely terrace overlooking the Elbe as well as two lovely restaurants that serve gourmet food. It is away from the bustle of the city-- nice and quiet. A hotel of choice if your standards are high and you wish to be treated with utmost respect. Modern art that adorns the hallways and some rooms are noteworthy and some are museum quality. They all contribute to the feeling that you are in your own private northern German mansion.

The staff here was amazingly helpful. Rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable. While my work did not afford me time to dine in the hotel, I wish I did have leisure time to enjoy their incredible facilities. Views are amazing! Easy access to walk along the Elbe River is a major plus. Bus #36 stopped steps away from the hotel which made commuting into downtown Hamburg a breeze.

Beautiful location and renovated historic hotel!
Staff are fantastic and really made my staff comfortable. The hotel is made up of a few historic properties that were remodeled and turned into a really nice place. My only complaint would be the chairs in the room were period but not terribly comfortable. All else was truly a class act. If you don't want to pay $35 for breakfast, there's a nice little bakery a block up the street.

This is our 6th stay at Jacob...we still love coming here and eating at the Michelin 2star restaurant... A little dissapointed that we couldn't check in until 5pm but were given a free drink for our inconvenience... Note; wifi very week throughout the hotel.

Great Hotel by River Elbe.
Hotel Louis C. Jacob in Hamburg was one of the most luxurious hotels I have stayed in. It felt good! The breakfast buffet - so full of fresh imaginative savoury and sweet foods - looked and tasted first class. Public rooms were comfortable and attractive. My room had plenty of delightful individual features in furnishing and decor.

The staff are very well trained and give exceptional customer service! The ambiance of the hotel is very special and you feel very pampered. The spa was amazing. The neighbourhood is great for walking and the seawall is right there for walking or biking. I highly recommend the Louis C Jacob!

One of the best hotels in Hamburg and in Europe
The Louis Jacob maintains a level of service not often seen in hotels around the world anymore. The staff is wonderful, the hotel itself is beautiful and understated and the hotel's location is the best in Hamburg. I'm very happy to return to this hotel when the opportunity presents itself. Not inexpensive, but wonderful value for money.

Exceptionally Responsible Hotel
One of the hotel staff made a mistake and lost my rented car keys which led to a chain of difficult events (missing a ferry, loosing nights at hotels...etc). The hotel took responsibility and went beyond the average to fix everything and compensate me for the inconvenience happened. they went beyond my expectations. i travel on monthly basis and visited the majority of this world. it is a hotel that earned my respect.
