Feels like home
We’ve been renting this cabin for years and have stayed more times than I can count. Every time I pull into the drive, it feels like coming home, and I’m sad whenever I have to leave. It is, quite simply, the perfect getaway.

Going to the nothing box
My wife and I needed a weekend to do nothing an just relax .Cabin on the Lake was just that. If we wanted to do something the property had it. If we wanted to go somewhere it was close by. Are choice was to enjoy the lake view on the front deck and go to the nothing box,

Great getaway
Place was truly a getaway. Allowed us to take time to disconnect. WiFi went out for a night but we managed to survive! Loved how secluded the property is.

Amazing!!
This cabin was everything my husband and I were looking for! So quiet and secluded, perfect for a romantic weekend getaway. From the moment we pulled up to the cabin, to the time we left, we were so in love with this place. It is just far enough away to be secluded, but close enough to town for groceries and activities. We enjoyed The General golf course at Eagle Ridge, which was less than 20 minutes away, Fergetaboudit winery which was about 10 minutes away, and Galena. At the cabin we loved fishing, the campfire, hiking around the property, and grilling out on the deck while watching a storm roll in. I highly recommend this cabin and even already booked again for next year :)

Unique place to stay!
This was my 4th time at this place! It’s such a unique place! Private lake, beautiful surrounding! We enjoyed our weekend and we were so sad we had to leave the place! The check in process was very smooth, the cabin was clean and the kitchen was very well equipped. We really enjoyed watching the stars at night, and the peacefulness of the place! Relax and unwind.
This property is truly a tranquil retreat and Im so grateful that they share this place. This year I decided to venture into the woods, across from cabin. Left of the cabin was easy peasy. Then I decided to go to the south west side of the cabin. Well I got lost and walked and walked. I finally came opon a farm with a girl named Amanda. She lived on Blanding. She was the sweetest thing and had me hop into her side by side and took me back to my cabin, in a down pour on muddy trails. I wanted to give her something for her trouble but she wouldnt except anything. It was an adventure for sure.

Perfect getaway
This was our third year staying here, and my 5 year old grandson’s first time. He really had a great time too. When we were getting ready to leave, he said he wanted to stay 100 more days. We look forward to coming back more each time. The fishing was great, swimming and hiking were also a hit. It’s just so relaxing here. Thank you for letting us stay!

Beautiful weather! As usual we had a marvelous stay! We always enjoy our stay here, this place is so close to our hearts! My husband thinks a few grass carp would be good for the lake.

Cabin on the Lake
We loved our time at the Cabin on the Lake! We fished, we hiked, we went swimming, and we had campfires every night. The cabin is in a great location—totally secluded, but close enough for a quick trip into town. I’m honestly torn in between telling everyone I know how awesome this place is versus telling absolutely no one, in hopes that it might be available for our next stay.

Slice of Heaven!
We loved our time at the cabin on the lake! Our kids (5 & 7) loved it as well! Private lake for fishing, boating, and swimming. Nature trails to explore. And only 20 minutes from Galena. We will definitely be back!

Cabin in the woods
A perfect cabin in the woods! The lake was beautiful! It was so quiet, all you could hear were the birds and frogs. The deck was the perfect spot for morning coffee and enjoying the view. And the fire pit was perfect for s'mores! Great location and not too far from Galena if you wanted to run into town for a meal. Three Sisters in Elizabeth (15 min away) has amazing ice cream too!!

Did you read my last review?
If so, what are you waiting for?? Book it now before I book it again! Fantastic spot to relax and enjoy a few days away from it all. Boating, walking the grounds; adjacent to Galena and chestnut mountain, apple donuts at the top of the hill at the orchard! Nights are quiet and serene, days the forest is alive and the air is fresh. The property owner helped us out with everything we needed.

Unbelievably Beautiful Location
We loved staying at the cabin and enjoyed the privacy this property offered. Our weather was perfect and we spent as much time outside as we could either paddling on the lake or hiking on the private trails. We also had a campfire one night and loved seeing the endless stars! There are numerous options close to the cabin for hiking and other activities. We spent a day shopping in Galena. Absolutely loved this beautiful and walkable town. It was very busy but afterwards we got to escape back to our cabin and returned to our state of zen. Truly a lovely experience!

Relaxing lake cabin
We so enjoyed coming back again this year! This cabin on the lake is cozy, and is supplied with anything you should need. It’s the most relaxing place I’ve ever found. Just looking over the lake, fishing, listening to nature, looking at so many stars at night, or discovering the many trails. And the scenery is breathtaking. We can’t wait to return. Thank you Catherine for allowing us to stay there. The apple turnover’s and apple donuts (still warm out of the oven) from Orchard Landing are the best ever, and just down the road.

Another perfect weekend
The cabin is just what our family needed. We enjoyed the change of season this weekend and we were super cozy. The trails off the lake are my favorite part. We caught tons of fish and snuggled in for Sunday's football game. The kitchen had everything we needed for a big family meal. Thank you again for your hospitality!

Beautiful and fun
We always love coming to this property for the beautiful scenery, privacy, and time spent in nature. The little lake is so fun to swim in and we enjoyed taking out the canoe and pedal boat. The fire pit is awesome and you can see every star at night. The cabin’s balcony is the perfect place to sip a drink and enjoy the view. We keep coming back because we always have a wonderful time here with our family.

Another great stay
We can’t get enough of this place. It’s close enough to town for a trip for pizza and a visit to the old fashioned ice cream parlor and candy store, yet secluded from the rest of the world to enjoy peace and quiet. We love the fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, exploring, campfires and the family bonding time this wonderful place affords us.

Quiet,Peaceful, and absolutely beautiful.
I usually like to stay somewhere, then go explore areas surrounding the town where I'm staying. This place was so peaceful and beautiful, that I didn't care to go anywhere. The only thing I can dislike is the sleeping rooms downstairs. My sister and her guy slept in the main bedroom, which was a Murphy bed. So I had to sleep in the lower bunk and my son slept in the other lower bunk. After putting my mattress topper on the bunk, I slept better. Although there is a sofa sleeper upstairs, some guests stayed up late, so not an option for me. This place is so relaxing, it's worth the small inconvenience of sleeping in the bunk.

Perfect refuge
I cannot express how grateful I was to be able to enjoy the Cabin on the Lake with my family. It was so peaceful and the view from the property was truly picturesque. The weather during our stay couldn't have been more perfect. The water was so tranquil, we loved being out on the private lake. The amount of stars you can see at night was simply amazing. After visiting this cabin and lake, you'll never want to leave!
We love this cabin! It was our fourth trip to the cabin and we had an amazing time as usual. Imagine a retreat where you can unwind and escape the daily grind, where you can get back to nature and enjoy the peace and quiet. You'll fall in love due to this cabin's beautiful setting among the woods and wildlife and of course, a 10 acre private lake, surrounded by beautiful forests and hiking trails. They have a paddle boat, row boat, and canoe available for use and a great private fishing dock. The new firepit, new deck furniture, and other upgrades were amazing! We loved sitting by the fire, sipping wine on the porch overlooking gorgeous views, cooking smores, and the kids made sandcastles. We saw a few deer and listened to the bullfrogs at night. Inside, the cabin was clean and cozy with all of the comforts of home, such as great entertaining and sleeping spaces. It comfortably held our group of 6 (four adults, two kids.) We had a couple things that were in the process of being fixed inside the cabin (which were no big deal) and Catherine quickly resolved them! That's a big reason why we enjoy staying here so much because Catherine and her family maintains it perfectly and she is very attentive to our needs. When you're at this lakehouse, it's sufficiently isolated from the hustle and bustle of life, but not so far that you can't jump in your car and be in Hanover in 10 minutes or Galena in 20 minutes. Although the idea is to enjoy the outdoors, having a great Internet connection is important for our family, especially for my son who runs his business online. The recent high speed internet upgrade (that we also enjoyed last year) allowed us to stay connected if we had to for rainy day and evening entertainment options. Stream video, have Zoom calls, and anything you'd do at home. We brought a small Roku to hook up to the nice TV upstairs with an HDMI port. They also offer Dish Network there, so you will have plenty to watch even if you don't stream over the internet. You truly get the best of both worlds, enjoying the seclusion and privacy, but being connected. Deal with work issues or other important errands that come up and require internet. The cabin has everything you need for a relaxing and peaceful getaway, and the views are simply breathtaking. We hope everyone gets an opportunity to stay here since it's such a fun place and holds so many memories for our family. We can't wait to return again next year - and maybe even stay longer!

Perfect Summer Vacation
Returning to this property for another perfect summer vacation has been such a treat. The cabin still has all the charm it had 30 years ago! You have done an amazing job preserving all the wonderful things that make your property amazing! We caught hundreds of fish, rowed around the lake, and grilled out on the deck. I also brought 4 floating lounge chairs for the lake. I spent hours just floating in the breeze. I hiked the trail about 3 miles round trip and discovered where the fries live. We made new memories and relived old adventures at the cabin on the lake. Thank you for allowing our family to stay again.

Beautiful spot to get away from it all
Amazing location in the hills of the Illinois Driftless Area. Charming log-cabin with decor that matches the “away from it all” feel of the lake and it’s surrounding forests. There’s trails all over to see wildlife, cliffs, and creeks, it feels like you could explore the area for days and still not see it all. The lake is calm and the boats come with everything you need to fish and explore. At night the skies light up with a billion stars. My kids (10 & 5) enjoyed every minute and when it got too chilly by the fire pit they felt right at home in the living room. As if all this wasn’t enough there’s an apple orchard right next door with the best apple turnovers you’ve ever had and you can watch planes take off from the local airstrip. I couldn’t possibly oversell it, book it and you’ll be happy you did

Birthday Getaway
We were referred from Roxanne Simon! The property was breathtaking and so beautiful and peaceful. The fish were biting like crazy and it was fun for all! We enjoyed the campfires at night. The cabin had all the amenities and was nice and cozy! I will definitely go back in the summer next time!

Outdoor paradise
This place was so beautiful! The outside area was great with plenty of seating options, 3 boats to choose from, nice dock, and a very nice campfire pit near the lake. The lake is full of Bluegills so fishing was a blast. There were tons of hiking trails around the property. We did need to forage and gather our own firewood which was quite a chore since it wasn't cut into easy to handle chunks. There were tons of dead flies in the window sills upstairs. The kitchen had everything we needed and eating on the table on the deck each night was so nice. We used the grill which worked great. The beds were a little uncomfortable. All in all the outdoors was so gorgeous that the few downfalls are just something to consider....bring your own wood or a saw and maybe a mattress pad! Will definitely be returning to this amazing place!

Very relaxing!
My son and I stayed at the cabin.. The weather was great and the cabin was spotless... Any questions we had there were answered quickly by the owner. The fishing was great. Caught lots of large bluegills and some smaller bass.. The scenery was beautiful and the lake was great.... So quiet and serene. Took out the boat and also my son did the paddleboat for fun... We had a relaxing time... Went out to eat a few nights...Charlies and Cajun Jacks both had great food.. Perfect place for a mini getaway.. Will for sure go back again...

What a beautiful place! especially in the morning, with the fog just over the lake. We hiked, swam, fished, cooked out, had s’mores at the fire pit. The cabin was supplied with everything we needed. Yearly getaway.
The place seems to get better every year. The new fire pit and deck furniture were a nice touch. We are looking forward to next year already.

Beautiful and private
Beautiful, private space. We enjoyed swimming and canoeing and taking out the pedal boat on the lovely little lake. The fire pit was wonderful. The night sky was outstanding. Lots of wildlife. The cabin was comfortable and rustic with all the necessary amenities and a great porch. The owner is lovely and responsive, as is the property manager. Our kids had a blast and so did we.

Another year in the books!
This is our annual trip and we had an amazing time as usual. The property is perfect for a family get away. Lots of fishing, hiking and bbq’ing. The new firepit was a pleasant surprise. We forgot some important items and the owner immediately shipped it to us at no charge, thank you! Book this place! You will not be disappointed.

A little piece of Heaven
We had a wonderful stay. The cabin is lovely and clean. The lake and wild life are amazing. We took the boat and paddle boat out on the lake. Beautiful scenery. My 10 year old catch 44 fish. Catch and release of coarse. We fished, Swam, Hiked, Boated, had bon fires this place has everything. I brought my telescope to do some star gazing and this is the perfect place to do just that. There was no moon. It is so dark at night you cannot see your own hand. We fell in love. My kids want to live there. and did I mention the wild life racoons, deer, a snake, different types of birds, herons, coyotes, owls, turtle. Having morning coffee on the porch every morning. The cabin on the lake is a little piece of Heaven.

Just what we needed!
The location and views were perfect! Just what we were looking for! Our 2 boys (3 & 6) absolutely loved that they could go in the lake and sand the minute they woke up! The cabin does need quite a bit of updating but we weren't renting for the cabin. We barely spent anytime in it anyway. The boys are already asking if we can go back!

Hi Shannon: Thank you for the review, we really appreciate it. I was curious about your comment regarding updating the cabin. What would you like to see there? We try to retain the cabin flavor with the 100 year old furniture from our grandfather's cabin, we just replaced the porch furniture, we added the air conditioning unit. Such a magical place!
We stayed at this beautiful log cabin for our 3rd year, it's a magical place. The cabin is very well equipped, and having a private lake with a dock, raft, beach and fire pit nearby with the beautiful forest surrounding it really what makes our annual trip here so wonderful. The owners / manager have been quick and so kind with communication. We are always looking forward to our next trip to the cabin right after we get home.

Awesome Getaway
This was our first vacation in 3 years and first as a family of 4. Couldn't have asked for a better getaway. Everything with the cabin, lake, beach, fishing, boats and bonfires was exactly what we were looking for. We (especially my 4 year old son) are already excited to go back again someday.
