Rather dissapointed
The room was clean however the safe did not work. I did not feel as there was no visible security on site on the night that I stayed there. The rooms are not sound proof. If you like the sound of passing traffic and the sounds of people fornicatting. I would suggest you pass then. There was no back up electricity as there was load shedding (no electricity) at the time. The breakfast selection was bland and the selection was minimal.

Nice, stylish, quiet B&B
The hotel is a nice, stylish bed and breakfast located in a quiet residential area of Johannesburg. The name is really a misnomer. The staff was friendly and helpful, and even made me boiled eggs the evening before when I had to leave early for a safari. It’s a little out of the way though and you have to take Uber to get anywhere, but it’s definitely worth the price!

This is our second time staying at Hotel Mi Pi Chi. It is such a little gem of a guesthouse offering all you need in a clean, safe and airy house. Will definitely recommend to friends and fellow travellers when in Melville.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROPERTY!!! Amenities are poor, and its not cleaned properly, bathroom facilities are outdated. The photos on the website are misleading, they photoshopped them, its way smaller in reality, and run down. With frequent load shedding in South Africa, management should have invested in a generator to ensure guests have electricity all the time.

Great motel, in a very very safe area. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. The room was very comfortable and the place is sparkling clean and the breakfast is fantastic! This is a home away from home and I will definitely be back!

Authentic Home in Johannesburg
This place is beautiful! It is its own unit as a stand alone home with front and back porches and everything. It has a living room kitchen, large bath, it really is a gorgeous home. The only catch is the security that keeps you very safe is also what keeps you from accessing help from the proprietor should you need it. I checked in at only 7 p.m. in the winter, but it had already gone dark and with no outside lights on the grounds I had no way of seeing and knowing how to get back across the street to the 'front desk' building to let them know my wifi wasn't working so I could call home and let family and friends know I had landed safely. With no phone in the unit to call for help I was basically stranded inside my unit there until day break and I could see to walk outside to ask for help and use all of the keys and locks for the gates. The gentleman who shows you to your unit will expect a tip and if you don't have any Rand on you he will make an excuse to come to your unit the next day to see if you have gone to the ATM. The woman who runs the place is extremely helpful and very friendly. She can tell you great places to walk to and where to find anything you might need in the local area. There is a nice breakfast provided as well. The authentic African decor within the unit were beautiful as well.

Great guesthouse in a nice neighborhood
Trendy and comfortable guesthouse in the lovely Melville neighborhood. The people working here are great especially Tyson the night security guard. We would recommend this guesthouse to anyone traveling to Johannesburg.

Friendly hotel in nice northern suburb of Jo'burg
I was in Johannesburg alone for a few days to explore the city and carefully chose a hotel in a good location with good reviews- it didn't disappoint. The hotel is in a nice leafy northern suburb of Jo'burg and has friendly, helpful staff. The room was ready for my arrival as I had requested (I arrived in the morning). Breakfast was a nice mix of continental items (the muffins are amazing!). All in all a great stay!

Good place for a great price
Very solid spot for the price. Clean, comfortable, all the basics covered and then some. Nice location near Melville shops and restaurants. Only downside is that it's not the easiest to get from the motel to the big sites in downtown Joburg, but a 50 rand (under 5 USD) uber ride can get you to Constitution Hill, Braamfontein and other key spots that connect to the major sightseeing busses and Gautrain. I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking for something a bit different and travelling on a budget.

Gem of a Place, Great Service and Value
Service at the hotel was amazing Nicky was absolutely amazing. We ran into some hiccups with our pre-organised tour being canceled last minute, and Nicky was kind enough to run around and call around late Sunday night to see if she can manage to rectify the situation for us. We decided to stay another night to give us some time to make a proper decision. I can not preach about the service at motel Mi Pi Chi enough! The room and the motel was excellent. Everything was clean and tidy and had a nice homely and cozy feel to it. Despite this being a converted residential property, it was fairly quiet for the number of guests staying the night. The location was brilliant. It's located in Melville which is a trendy area of Jo-burg. Supposedly there isn't too many "safe" neighbourhoods in Jo-burg, but this area did feel safe. Granted we didn't really go out at night, but during the day it was good, very close to the restaurant and cafe strip to get a nice lunch or dinner. Breakfast was also great. Nothing completely spectacular, but it was enough to get us going for the day. I know it's not a major reason for a stay, but they did offer DSTV, which is nice to be able to turn on a TV and have a large assortment of channels to watch from movies, to world news rather than just 5 or 10 local channels. Definitely a place worth recommending to stay. Friendly atmosphere great service and great value for money.

Awesome stay in April - motel arranged for airport pickup, which was a big relief in a new city after a long trip. Room was nice and clean and had good WiFi. Breakfast was very good. Staff is so friendly and helpful with suggestions for sights, activities and safety. The neighborhood is very nice too, with shops and restaurants close by and safe to wander in by day. Would definitely stay again and will recommend it to everyone.

A lovely guest house that is within walking distance to delicious restaurants, 27 boxes for shopping and a great area to have coffee or tea. The staff is friendly and accommodating and so helpful in booking tours. I would stay her again in a second. (Stayed November 2016)

Great Stay in South Africa!
I stayed for 6 days and had a great time! The hotel is situated very nicely between a shopping complex and restaurants, so you have all you need within walking distance. The staff was very nice, and even loaned me an adapter for my cell phone charger since I hadn't realized they would be different from the US. First time outside North America, so I really appreciated that. I had the studio apartment, and I was very impressed with it. Very spacious, and the modernity of the kitchen as well as the bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable. I didn't eat the continental breakfast much, since I used the studio kitchen instead. Having the kitchen was very helpful in saving money. It was nice eating local food but I don't even eat out everyday at home, so it's nice to save money where I can on vacation. Also, the electronic gates add a nice level of protection. All in all, definitely I would definitely recommend.

Very nice stay. The motel is placed in Melville - chilled and easy area of Jo'burg. We (3 friends) got a spacious apartment that had everything we needed. Nice breakfast and friendly staff.

Friendliest hotel yet.
Virginia, Mavis, Winston and other members of staff make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. The rooms are a good size, very clean ( and are kept that way daily). Breakfast though simple is way more than I expected. The security guy who keeps an eye on your safety is very reassuring too. There are tours that can be arranged by the staff. In fact they go the extra mile for you. I will certainly stay there again without hesitation.

An excellent place to stay to see Johannesburg and surrounding area. My studio was very spacious, comfortable and private, with room to park outside. The motel owners are friendly and welcoming, with an excellent breakfast provided. The motel is in a pleasant residential area but with a supermarket a few minutes' walk away.

Nice hotel
This is a minimalist hotel (hippy) in the neighborhood of Melville. The motel is close to few restaurants and the staff is friendly. My partner and I enjoyed the breakfast at the motel! The staff told us that it's not safe to walk at night (after 7 pm) around the hotel. It seems it's like this everywhere in Joburg so we were not too surprised about this. We did a tour of Soweto/museum of apartheid and another tour of the cradle of humankind during our stay (arranged by the motel). Note that the tour(s) organized by the motel are expensive and we did not do all the activities written on the brochure. Last, the motel also arranged the transfer from the airport. The cab was late and somewhat expensive. Overall, nice motel but you should organize tours/transfer yourself.

I stayed here for a week and i really liked the room. The sun room was great for catching the early sun in the morning before beginning my day.The staff were also are very helpful and helped greatly me with any queries that I had. Modern decor with a quaint and comfortable feel to it.
