Staff was amazing
Wonderful hotel in a great location just down the street from Kalmar Castle and the train station. Shops and restaurants within a five minute walk. Room was clean, comfortable, cozy, and nicely appointed. Warm breakfast was served in the hotel restaurant. The hotel staff was absolutely amazing, very friendly and hospitable. I can’t emphasize enough how welcoming the staff was. I will definitely be staying at Slottshottelet next time I visit Kalmar. It truly felt like a home away from home.

Our major complaint was the floor drain in the shower outgassing sewer gases, creating a rather bad smell in the room. We sort of mitigated it by placing a wet towel over the floor drain to block the smell.

The hotel has a good location, which is the main benefit - the castle and city centre are in a walking distance. The room (in a house next door) was big enough but unfortunately not very clean (dirt around door handles, dust and hairs on the floor, etc.). Not something you would expect to experience in a four-star hotel! On-site parking was possible for a fee (90 SEK) and the breakfast was varied enough.

Beautiful hotel and great staff
Really beautiful hotel and very inviting and cozy. It is a historical bldg. and therefore has no elevator. Not a big deal as there are just 3 floors. Just pack light :-) as you will need to carry your own bags (Covid). They did a nice job of distancing people during breakfast by setting appointments (thank you) but failed to do the same for the light dinner offered. Staff are super nice and polite.

We enjoyed the location on a treed street, very nice for walking to Kalmar Slot. There was an evening light meal offered ,plus a good breakfast.

The junior suite was unreal! So beautiful! I could have stayed there a week! Old, in the best way possible. Breakfast was delicious , and the area was lovely. We walked literally, just a few minutes to Kalmar Slott. No A/C, so a fan would have helped. It was a little difficult to manage all the luggage, when the check in was at a different building than the guest rooms. But it was totally worth it! One of the prettiest rooms I’ve ever stayed in!

The location was excellent. The setting and rooms were wonderful. The breakfast was greatly appreciated. The only issue we encountered involved us having to carry large suitcases up to the 3rd floor. However, we were readily accommodated in a lower level floor, so everything worked out well. Would highly recommend this hotel.

stayed for a long weekend in the Budget part of the hotel. A very pleasant stay. Had a good sleep in the bed and the room was spacious. A big plus is the breakfast and light evening meal, and complimentary tea and coffee all day.

Quaint hotel close to castle
Quaint hotel just down the street from the castle. Dinner was okay but not enough for my vegetarian husband. Breakfast was adequate. Rooms are on the larger side.

A refreshing stopover.
Couldn't be a handier location for a one-night stay on our drive between Stockholm and Copenhagen. Hotel right across street the Kalmar 'palace/fortress' on the waterfront. Very good food, including free dinner, at dining hall in the back courtyard. Lodging in dorm on side street was spartan but comfortable. On-street parking posed no problems.

Hotel dinner that was incl was less tasty. Some strange yellow risotto with cheese on top, breakfast was just fine. Alright bed!

ABSOLUTELY NOT A 4 STAR Hotel
I just do not understand who give this hotel a 4 Star. What criteria do they use? I went from this hotel to a 4 Star hotel in Lund and the difference is heaven and earth. We were in the Annex, I would rather call it barracks. Poorly maintained, not clean, a lot of food smell from people using pentrys due to poor ventilation, terrible little showers etc. etc. The list can be made long. The main building has two small nice bar rooms for an evening drink. But as they were filled with families with small children until midnight, they resembled more a day care center. The breakfast is just the basics, but with poor quality and the worst morning coffee I have ever tasted in Sweden. All in all, if you are adults without children and do not need to cook food in the room, stay away.

Nice city hotel
It was a very nice old fashioned hotel, both breakfast and dinner buffé was included in the price and it was better than expected. It was close to main shopping and sightseeing such as the Kalmar Castle.

Well located hotel with some deficiencies.
I thought the room was too small with inadequate space for storage; we had to reposition some items in the room to make more space; given the amount we paid, the size of the shower room was inadequate. The breakfast was good (but I have had better variety elsewhere) as was the complimentary evening meal; good location in relation to the town centre. The parking available was only street parking which was something of a lottery; at least it was free.

Great sightseeing hotel
Lovely old style hotel in the old town. Ignore the 'free' evening meal, buffet style one choice menu. Eat on the island instead. Great hotel for the palace and island sightseeing. Pre book parking if you're taking a car. Recommend.
