Hotel Himalaya is an up-scale, but not ostentatious, hotel in the Lalitpur section of Kathmandu. Pick-up and drop off at the airport worked well, even during a monsoonal downpour. Rooms are quite comfortable and the A/C takes care of both the heat and the humidity. The restaurant serves a variety of dishes, and all that I tried tasted good. The menu is probably a better value than the buffet. For breakfast the buffet usually is included with the room along with a station where you can order fried eggs or an omelet. Rooms on the 5th floor, where I stayed, have steps down to a seating area next to the window and to the desk. There is no railing for these steps. There also are a couple of steps down into the shower area, there was no tub. Some rooms allow smoking. Be sure to ask for a non-smoking room if that is an important consideration. Hotel shops run about 30% above the price at the shops outside the hotel. Places to eat outside are available, but are not easily spotted from the street unless you know where you are going. Location is central and traffic is corresponding in its intensity
