I had to wait a few days before I responded to this review. As a true homeowner who lived in this home, my wife and I decided that due to life circumstances we needed to put this on VRBO and start a small business in order to help our kids out back home, and find a way to keep our home that we fell in love with. We took a huge leap of faith in trusting others to take care of our home and the furnishings we left there. Unlike many other VRBO's and ABnB's, we left our own furnishings there, including some family heirlooms and that is no exaggeration. The bedroom set in the master is the set that we purchased when we finally could afford something nice not long after being married. The desk in the spare room was my grandfathers' which he brought back from Peru and is just shy of 100 years old. I never got the chance to meet him either, so this is beyond sentimental to me. When something gets misused or broken, we rely on our cleaning people to help us identify those items and notify us so we can follow up. The follow up process is part of running our small business. The start up costs alone to initiate this 'Idea' we had were no small venture for normal people like ourselves to come up with. We spent close to $4000 to make this happen, and we aren't done yet with maintaining an older house (A new furnace and AC system is being installed in April and the bill for that is $8000). And those were just the VRBO costs, not what we've spent upgrading this in the last year (Not even close). It might also surprise you that on our listing we do allow dogs (under 20# to stay at our house provided they are house broken and preferably do not shed). So far in the 3 months we have had this listed, we have had several people not disclose they were bringing pets and leave large amounts of hair that needed to be cleaned up (which costs extra money based on the severity) and had several animals that had accidents that were visible to my wife and I when we came back to stay. Everything has been cleaned and disinfected since then. Likewise we have had linens go missing altogether and had other damages. Those items have to be replaced and that all costs money. So yes, Judi, it is an honor system. and When I reached out to you I was not accusatory, nor was I rude or trying to make you feel poorly. I also do admit that I had forgotten to send you the door codes, however my information was very accessible on the website and app, and you had no problems getting in touch with me either, so I don't think you were too inconvenienced were you? That process is now automated, so it will not happen again to any future guests. Guests are expected to notify us of any damages they notice or make, and are in a position to be held accountable for them at the end of their stay if not reported in a timely and appropriate manner. You noticed tears in the linen and did not mention anything, and you had my number, so you knew how to get in touch. The cleaners reported this to us, and noted they thought an animal had made them, so that's why I asked you if you had an undisclosed pet staying with you. We have to listen to our people that are doing the work, and that is how the process works. You were not charged for anything, and you were taken at your word. So we spent another $150 on replacement linens and towels so future guests would continue to have an enjoyable stay. I wish I could add our text conversation below so people will know I am not making this up, and then they could judge for themselves as to whether or not I was out of line. However I am happy to provide redacted screenshots if anyone needs to see them to ease any potential worries about how we treat our guests. I believe our previous reviews speak for themselves. If you come back to Laurel Judi, I am sure you will not have any problems finding another place to stay. Good luck to you.

John, it was a pleasure to be able to meet some of our guest, and especially you and your wife! I'm sorry to hear the fireplace smoke smell was a problem for your wife. I might have forgotten to close the damper as we had burned a fire log in there the night before your stay. My apologies sir. Perhaps that was the issue with the temperature as well....? I agree with you that the house is nicely located and convenient to most all of the of the things Laurel has to offer. I do hope you will come back and enjoy the pool during the summer months. The fireflies are simply awesome during the evening around the pool area! It's magical!!
