Great place!
Updated listing with a smart tv. Two bedrooms with all the blankets and pillows one would want. Futon was great for the kids. Plenty of chairs for lounging around. Plenty of wood on the property. Lots of movies for the family to choose from.

Perfect Cabin on the River
This was a great spot tucked away with a fabulous view of the river. Got to relax with the family with our own little piece of the river, not many people around. Super quiet and the house had everything we needed.

Perfect Family Getaway

Had a blast!
This was our first family trip to the Frio and a memorable one! Had no surprises at the property and Mr. Moore answered every question we had. The privacy was what we looked for and only saw our neighbors from the other cabin during our stay. Went to the swim hole at Concan and missed the river at the cabin (the crowds)! Grilled each night and enjoyed the wilderness there as well. Boys loved Yahtzee during the storms and plenty of room in the cabin for our family of 5. Will stay again and recommend to friends!

What can i say priceless. Thank you Jhon for your grand hospitality it was more than we expected. The wine hit just fine, my wife and loved it. The view is breath taking, noncroweded and private. This was our 5th trip to stay at Double Dog Cabins. And we already booked next years stay. I can not say enough about this amazing place. ROMANTIC HILL COUNTRY GET AWAY
If you truly want to get away from the hustle and bustle this is your place!! Looks at the Frio with no obstructions. Located in the heart of the Hill Country in the middle of the Twisted Sisters and minutes from Garner State Park. The house is perfect for 4 people though it was just the two of us. Love the HUGE front porch. Lots of wildlife. I racoon came to visit us when we were working on the porch. Ha! We have already booked for next year. You will NOT be sorry if you book this awesome place!!

Amazing Property
This property was exactly as it was listed and even better! The river view and access was amazing. The house was very cute, well maintained, and well stocked. The kitchen has just about everything you need, there are plenty of games and movies, the bedrooms are cozy with plenty of pillows and blankets, and the bathrooms even have shampoo and conditioner. My only advice is to make sure you can receive WiFi calls. It was difficult to get the phone call from the property manager 2 hours prior to check-in as per the check-in instructions because I had no service anywhere in that area: from Lost Maples State Park throughout Leakey, or by the property. We drove all over the hilly area trying to get up "high enough" to get service. No luck. Thankfully, I had the WiFi name and password on the reservation paperwork I had printed off. We sat around the fire pit on the property while I messaged the property manager through VRBO, but I didn't get a message back. I Googled how to make WiFi phone calls, and was finally able to call him. This isn't the property manager's fault, but it's good to know that you won't have service up there. Maybe getting the access code via phone call earlier would be helpful. I will definitely use this property again for another family getaway. We had 5 people in our group: a 17yo, two 18 yos, and us parents. Everyone had an amazing time. Super quiet, and the perfect way to disconnect from the world to enjoy each other's company and some nature.

Amazing Cabin Experience
This is a beautiful property. My family and I had an amazing experience staying here. After hiking at the nearby Lost Maples State Park, we came back to the cabin and explored the Frio River, right in front of the cabin. My 4 and 6 year old kids had an absolute blast in the river. We had dinner outside on the front porch and enjoyed the view before getting a campfire going and making s'mores. The interior of the cabin is furnished with very nice furniture and comfortable beds.

I'm the dryest part of the year this location still had enjoyable water in the river.
Property was wonderful but could use a little better access to the river. The access behind the house needs to be rebuilt. Instead of having to utilize a rope.... Lol...Us older folks need a little bit more stability you get down to the river... LOL... Which was a great location.

Glad you enjoyed your Cara !!- Sadly in 2020 we had a huge mudslide taht took out our main trail behind that cabin and we have to build a new footbridge over the drainage. But all of our guests are permitted to use the driveway to simply walk down to the river where it is flat and easy to get in. Just a few more steps. We put the rope in for kiddos to use and they LOVE it.

4th of July Family vacation.
Stayed with family for 4th of July and to make trip to Garner for a couple of days while staying at cabin. Enjoyed everything about it. Gorgeous view of River from balcony, loved sitting on Rocking chair drinking coffee in the mornings. My favorite was taking the short hike to the river. Family enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. Excellent communication from the owner John Moore about the cabin and our stay.

The cabin was clean and roomy for the 4 of us. Access to the river was a little difficult but we made it down the hill with the help of the rope. Listing says there is no cable but has a DVD-the DVD player didn’t work BUT the TV was a smart one so we could watch Netflix. All in all we enjoyed it.

This was a great property with great host support. Cabin has everything you need. We appreciated the bottle of wine the owner left us. Our dog loved the cabin and area as well. Cabin has WiFi and a smart TV for guests to login and use their respective streaming service like Netflix or Amazon Prime. Would definitely go back again.

I would highly recommend this property.
I would highly recommend this property. The owner (John) was great to work with, even comped me a bottle of wine, and the view and cabin are spectacular! The view is incredible and it is located, with easy access, on the Frios River in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

If you are looking for a place to reconnect with your family you’ve found it. We visited in winter and we will be back this spring. My daughter and I had a wonderful time in the water hiking for a few miles upstream (we didn’t trespass). We built a fire in the fire pit the last night we had and we all talked about that this was an epic vacation. We will be back.

Beautiful view of Frio River
My husband and I overall enjoyed our stay. The view of the Frio river is picturesque, nestled in the Texas mountain range. The cabin sits on a cliff and access to the water is via a rope down to the water bank or you can take a short walk down to the river bridge crossing. You are free to walk through the water and enjoy the cliff range. There were multiple signs of private property which prohibited us from walking on the bank side areas. Nevertheless the area is very quiet, with the occasional vehicle crossing the bridge. We had quick response from the owner when questions were raised. We took our dogs with us and they loved the water. We were close to Garner where we enjoyed the multiple trails and open area to let the dogs run and play.

Glad you enjoyed it ! We love sharing the Frio with people and their pets. Yes - all navigable rivers in Texas are legally accessible and can be floated - but all the river banks are private property that must be respected. our property has over 650 linear feet of the river on it and we also share access with 6 other property owners in the are which is why we have so much are our guests can cover.

Wonderful retreat
We absolutely loved our stay. Our dogs didn't want to leave! The river access was so easy, and completely private the whole weekend. The house was in perfect order---clean, bright. The beds were super comfy, and the linens were very soft. Cooking in the kitchen was a breeze. They supplied basic spices like salt and pepper and garlic, but I would suggest packing a few others if you plan to cook anything more extravagant than a steak 🤣 we will definitely be back in the future!

Beautiful amazing view but...
First of all... the location is beautiful. The view is breathtaking! Thankful for the free bottle of wine. Now for the not so beautiful. So many dusty cobwebs on the ceilings and dust bunnies on the cabinets. Floors appeared to need cleaning. Laminate on bathroom sink was pulled apart from wood. The front glass door did not close properly. We were disappointed in the cabin but loved the Frio!!!

Thanks for the feedback on the cobwebs! We are meeting with the housekeeper to arrange for a deep cleaning of both our cabins. Sorry about the screen door, it is a constant struggle with the wind blowing, it gets bent back against the hinges and we have to replace it several times a year.
