A Quick Trip to Atchison

Posted Oct 30, 2013
Pros: The staff's attitudes were superb. The cleanliness the motel as a whole. The quietness of the rooms. The price was reasonable.
Cons: Hot breakfast cold. The microwave & frig were on the same circuit as the light switch by the door & would turn off when the switch was turned off
Location: The location was convenient to the apartment of someone I was helping to move. Unfortunately I didn't have time to visit any of the sights.
I found the Motel staff to be very helpful. When I was bringing my luggage on the rack, Athena, the clerk came to help me take it to my room as I use two canes to get around. When I couldn't find my card key, the staff came and opened the door for me. The remote control needed new batteries which were replaced promptly. The bed was very comfortable and the temperature of the room was as I like it. The room was very clean. As I had requested a non-smoking room, there was no odor of smoke. I had a very pleasant stay.

Pros: Excellent service!!
Location: We came for the Ghost Tour that Atchison puts on in October. The Chamber of Commerce was within walking distance. Overall, a nice city!
This stay was a pleasant surprise!! Athena at the front desk was super accommodating and went out of her way to ensure we had everything needed to make our stay comfortable. Thank You!!

This hotel had a bad reputation but I had heard it had renovated. It was very clean, great service including full breakfast. Room smelled fresh and was very clean. New TV.

Not for Non-smokers

Posted Oct 7, 2010
I checked into the hotel and went to my room and I opened the door and was immediately hit with a thick smell of smoke. I went back to the desk and was told that if I paid more I could upgrade to a king non-smoking room. I did so and was sent to room # 2 at the higher rate and the smell of smoke was still prevelant, plus there was an ashtray and matches. Mediocre hotel but would be fine if you are a heavy smoker. Front desk personnel were friendly. I checked out at 7 am and saw my husband 12 hours later and his first remark was how bad I smelled of smoke.

Small Town Hotel

Posted Jul 22, 2010
This hotel was one of the three located in Atchison. I would guess it is the better one to stay at. Since we are from a large city and do travel alot, our expectations were higher than what we got. Although our room appeared clean, it smelled musty/damp and the carpet felt sticky. The towels were somewhat thin. The bathtub/shower did not drain, and consequently we were standing in several inches of water during the shower. The complimentary breakfast was minimal. The juice machine did not work at all. The dry cereal tasted stale. We did report the juice machine to the front desk, and the lady tried to fix it and made a phone call for help. She was still working on it when we checked out. The front desk clerks were pleasant. Because it was a weekend, the rates were higher and the hotel was overpriced for the stay. However, since we have relatives in Atchison, we may be staying there again. If you do need to stay in Atchison, I would stay here, but just don't set your expectations too high.

Nell Hills Weekend

The hotel was clean. Breakfast offered a nice variety of choices. The only downside was that there was no elevator. We have a daughter who is handicapped and climbing stairs proved a challenge. Of course, carrying our "stuff" was not pleasant either. However, we had a great night's sleep. Maybe it was from the added exercise!!!!!
