I had booked a double room, but the owner tried to give me a single room, also they served me a half breakfast which was different from the table beside me even though I had booked it for two people and showed up as one person.

great hotel for family stay- value for money
Really lovely hotel. We had a room for us (2 adults) plus 3 teenage kids. We all had proper beds, no one on a camp bed or sofa bed. Perfect for visiting Madame Tussaud’s. The hotel was clean, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the beds were comfy - I would really recommend this hotel for a short break with the family. For the price it was very good. The breakfast was good enough - the 2 ladies were very efficient serving everyone and keeping all the toast racks full. Bearing in mind it’s a 2 star, I think it was very good and would definitely stay again. We got it on Tesco vouchers which was a bonus!

Stayed for 2 days at Avon. Very Close to Paddington station. Pretty good breakfast and good service over all Felt a bit cold as we could not switch on Heater nor it seemed running. No lift so gotta lug our big luggages up to 3rd floor of course with help form Avon staff. Good for those who prefer to stay close to Paddington with nice breakfast

Only saving grace was the reception staff who kindly honoured my check in at 9:45pm despite their T&Cs saying it was until 6pm, which is ridiculous in central london but my mistake for missing this. The bedroom, number 18, was the coldest room i have had the misfortune to stay in, despite the radiator being on the top setting there was zero heat given out, the single glazed windows let so much condensation through there was a pool of water on the sill. The bathroom had no door on it, and whilst this is a single room is a little odd. The other major issue was the noise of the plumbing throughout the night, I got about 1 hours sleep with being woken up every 10 minutes. When I came down to check out and raise the complaint and feedback in the morning there was not a sole to be seen with a message informing me to simply leave the key in a basket. I would not stay here again, nor will i reccomend it. Despite the lady on reception with the warm welcome.

I stayed in a small single bedroom room-just big enough for a bed, dresser, night stand and space to laydown a large suitcase. My main concerns were the incessant noise and vibrations from the trains passing by every few seconds.that made it hard to fall asleep. The staff and the morning breakfast were nice.

Receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Was in single room - seemed clean but was really small room and bathroom and this room was underground. Must be a nearby tube tunnel as whenever a train went past was quite noisy and could feel it. Had two wifi networks but couldn't connect to one of them - the one that reached room. Hot breakfast but quite small - one egg, one sausage, one slice of bacon and a few beans. Then some yoghurt and other bits you could help yourself to.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Made to feel very welcome. Able to leave bags before and after booking in and checking out. Good location. Within walking distance of Paddington Station. Room quite small and decor a bit old fashioned and tired, this is reflected in the reasonable price.

Wonderful staff and proprietors. Great location.
The service was wonderful. The rooms were spotless. I was unable to get the emoji for those two categories to show an excellent score so I'm including them in my comments. Very convenient location. 2 minutes to a tube station. Great local restaurants and pubs. A lovely park right across the street. Couldn't ask for more.

Booked a quadruple with four single beds in a row as shown in website photo. However during check-in was told family room not available for first night. Was given a double room and two single rooms instead with option to either stay put or move to a family room for the following two nights. However the next morning was told to move to family room because the single rooms had been let out for that day! In the first place, why accept the booking when the quadruple room was not available?? Plus the room had a double bed and two single beds and NOT four single beds as shown in the website. Customers expect to be given what they paid money for, not something else. Be prepared to climb flights of steep, narrow staircases esp if you are staying on the highest floor. Carpet in room is in need of good shampooing and the room is uncomfortably small for four adults with hardly any space to even put the luggages and not to mention a tiny toilet with shower area even smaller than an airline toilet. But I've learnt a good lesson that is to read detailed reviews whether good or bad, before booking.

Receptionist not at all welcoming. Hotel rooms are very small. Whole hotel needs badly updating with frayed carpets etc evident throughout. Very poor that breakfast isnt served until 0730. When I said I was looking for some breakfast at 0700 so as to be able to go to work - it was simply met with a shrug of the shoulders. Altogether very poor in my opinion and I wont be returning.

Lovely old building.We received a friendly welcome. Sadly no lift, 60 stairs to the 3rd floor! Our double room had a comfortable bed and the linen was nicely laundered, the furnishings and decoure however were tired and dated The public areas were much smarter. The ensuite was unlike any other that I have ever seen, tiny, moulded plastic like in caravan. Clean but disappointing.

Convenient to Paddington with friendly staff
Asked for lower floor room as no lift. Only problem was that it was over a tube line. However, I was amazed how quickly I forgot about it and slept well. Room small and needed redecorating but very clean. Minute pod bathroom but adequate and again very clean. Steep stairs to breakfast room but worth going down for the delicious freshly cooked scrambled eggs and hot toast that I had both days. Helpful and friendly owners and staff. Would stay there again for convenience and the scrambled eggs.

I occupied a room below ground level and constantly heard the rumble of arriving and departing Underground trains from nearby Paddington Station. Also, in the early morning there was an intermittent loud machine-like noise coming from outside. Typical of London hotels, the room was too small. The bathroom was cramped and barely fit a shower stall, commode, and wash basin.

If you can climb steep stairs and live without clean sheets for 3-4 days, it is a good hotel to stay for people with low budget. Breakfast was good and was included.

6 nights at the Avon Hotel.
I recently had 2 visits to this hotel (5 nights & a 1 night stay). Probably the only negative comment that I can make about this hotel, is the fact there is no lift! This can be a big thing if you are older, or have mobility issues. I initially was put into a double room (the double bed took up most of the room!), then I had a single room which was a much better room! The staff were friendly & accommodating, the rooms were clean, the breakfast was good, & the location of this hotel cannot be beat.

The hotel is in a good location for tube station, my room a single one, was small, but okay. The breakfast was very good and staff pleasant. The faults I found were as follows: There should be two towels in the bathroom, one for facial use, one for taking a shower and bodily use. There was only one. There should be towel hooks in the bathroom, I hung my towel over the bathroom door. Lock on door seemed to work the other way around to normal. I was disturbed during the night by either water being run, or toilet being used from upstairs rooms, mine was ground floor, not sure what can be done about that in an old building. There is one person on the desk, and he or she occasionally has to move away, that is understandable, but sometimes the keys of guests who have gone out, are in a small basket, if I stayed there again, I would put mine over onto the desk, for safety from any indifferent guests who could take a key from the basket and go into a room. The door to the desk is locked which is good. I felt happy staying there and would stay there again. I asked for more t bags and milk and it was provided.

Only if you must stay near Paddington Station
Unless you need to stay within 5 minutes walk from Paddington Station, there is no reason why you should pay the price to stay here. Triple room is so small that only one person can walk. The ensuite bath is so tight in space that you must be a yoga master to take bath. Towels were not changed although we specifically told the housekeeper to do so. If you stay on the forth floor, be prepared to walk up 78 steps to get there and the stairways get more and more narrow.

I stayed at Avon Hotel for 3 nights in late August with my boyfriend. We enjoyed the included breakfast, hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was on the top floor, but the building is very old and doesn't have an elevator. We only had one carry-on bag each so it wasn't a big issue. The room was very small, but we had no trouble since we were out during the day. WiFi worked well. Hotel is close to Hyde park, which is nice for a walk/bike ride. Close to underground as well. It's not fancy, but you will get a clean bed, shower, and English breakfast.

Very good location - only a few minutes walk from Paddington station. Great value for money if you just want somewhere to rest your head for the night and are not concerned about any other facilities. Excellent, full English home cooked breakfast included - really yummy!

This hotel is located close to Paddington Station and the Big Bus Tours stop. However the ensuite leaves a lot to be desired being ok if you are about 155cm tall but otherwise to small even to swing a kitten in let alone a cat

I was vacationing with my three teenage children. We all fit very comfortably in the room and with a lot of luggage. Breakfast was made to order along with a nice variety of croissants, scones, etc. Even my picky 18 year old daughter who never eats breakfast really enjoyed it. The hotel and rooms were very clean, the owners very pleasant and helpful with restaurant suggestions and directions. The "tube" was only two blocks away and the neighborhood seemed very safe. We did not have any problems there. Plus, Paddington station is a Heathrow express stop AND it is a quick metro ride to St Pancras station where we picked up the Eurostar to Paris. Would highly recommend this hotel to others!

Budget Hotel in Hyde Park
This is definitely a budget hotel. With that in mind, however, it is not bad. The location is very good--2 blocks from Paddington station. The service is good. The rooms are old, small and very basic. Thin towels, shampoo in a pouch, etc. Basically, no frills. Had a bad initial experience when we tried to check in late at night. No one answered the door. Had to ring the buzzer for around 15 min while standing in the pouring rain before finally waking up the night porter. The best thing about the hotel is the hot breakfast cooked to order every morning. Free internet was available, but the signal was too weak to use on the top two floors. Hotel was clean and decent--but nothing special.

Everything about The Avon was perfect and exactly what I needed. I had a single room it was small but very comfortable and clean. The staff was very helpful with answering questions and advice for traveling around London and the neighborhood around the hotel. Also the location is perfect for anyone on foot using the tube system to get around. Over all safe, clean and I will stay there anytime I am going back to London!

Good for an overnight stop
While heading from the Isle of Skye down to Wales, I spent 1 night here. The hotel itself is a solid hotel but nothing special, but it was a solid place to spend the night at. The location is in a excellent place, downtown across the street from the central train station. I don't know that I'd do an extended stay there, but it's a good choice for a night or two.

The Avon Hotel is located near Paddington station, ideal if you fly into Heathrow and take the Heathrow Express into London since it leaves you right at Paddington. Other than that, we had to take public transportation to get to the major sights (which was not a problem, since London busses are very reliable). The hotel itself was very small, the room was tiny and had an even smaller bathroom, no real tub, just one tiny space for toilet and shower. They served great English Breakfast every morning. Overall, I guess it was worth the price, compared to how expensive everything is in London.

For the price point, this was a great little hotel that was close to Paddington and Edgeware tube stations. The staff was very friendly and provided a breakfast far beyond our expectations. We liked it enough that we booked two additional nights in the family suite.
