Comfortable Bed, Great Staff but ROOM not great!

Posted Dec 21, 2012
Pros: Staff, Service and lobby appearance
Cons: The bathroom sink, the fridge and power outlets
Location: It is not in the touristy area of Macau but that is great if you want to try some real Macau hot pot food.
This hotel was ok, compared to many other BW hotels. I didn't really like the fact that we were offerred a "upgrade/newer room" for US$30 more a night. Most of the Best Western hotels the rooms are all the same as in the "comfort" and "look", perhaps not all rooms are the same size. Therefore, I thought it was un-Best Western to try to upsale another room to us rather than giving us their best new room. Especially since I am a platinum member. The bed and room was fine. The view of the ocean was excellent. Unfortunately, there were many things in the room that did not work and had to be requested to be fixed such as the fridge, lights, power plugs, the sink etc... I"m not a huge complainer but I didn't think the room was up to Best Western standards. The service and the staff were excellent and the lobby was in beautiful compared to the room.

Bad Hotel

I would classify this as a hostel and not a hotel. The hotel is rated as a 3 star on the expedia website, but in reality it is well below this standard. I have stayed in many 3 star hotels around the world, and they all surpass Best Western Sun Sun.

It is understandable if Best Western has old properties with old rooms but what I had witnessed in their rooms is what I would expect in some 1-2 star motel or hostel in some remote rural villages. Torn bed sheets, torn mattress, rusted taps, bath tub badly damaged and rusted. We select best western because we trust some basic standard but this 1 night stay has changed my thinking.

The room is dirty, smelly, and dark! Unlike any pictures that shown on their website! The pictures of the room that they shown are the upgraded room which need to pay extra! This is the Worst hotel I have ever stayed in!!!

Very Sketchy

Although I was happy with the price of the hotel, overall I was incredibly disappointed. Since there weren't many reviews of this hotel, I was hoping for the best. PLease tell me this will be posted so others can avoid the same mistake. The hotel was nice from the outside and the lobby was nice. The room was incredibly run-down. The beds were slightly more soft than a concrete floor. The room reeked of smoke perhaps because there were 3 ashtrays in this tiny room. The manager was nice and friendly. Other desk workers treated me with a "why are you here?" attitude. If you are looking for a comfortable night's rest, I would definietly look somewhere else.

Good Value

This is a nice, clean hotel at very reasonable rates. The location was only a short walk to the main attractions in Macau, and the hotel is on a large open square, which is a welcome feature in a city as dense as Macau. It is very close to the China ferry pier, although travelers should keep in mind that it is on the other side of the peninsula from the main ferry terminal. Overall, a pleasant stay.
