Maebashi is situated 60 miles (97 kilometers) northwest of Tokyo, the country's capital, and approximately 75 miles (121 kilometers) northwest of Yokohama.
Staying in only one place, regardless of its popularity, can only ever give you a glimpse into the broader personality of a region. So be sure to set aside enough time to visit Gunma 's other attractions. Journey 18 miles (29 kilometers) northwest from Maebashi to Fukaya, where you'll find the Aqua Paradise Patio and Shibusawa Eiichi Memorial Museum.
About 40 miles (64 kilometers) to the northeast of Maebashi is Nikko, a regional center where you go see Toshogu, Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park and Nikko Temple. Futarasan Shrine, Taiyuinbyo and Rinno-ji Temple are other interesting attractions worth visiting for those who have more time on their hands.
Learning the local language is an excellent way to bridge the cultural divide, so be sure to learn to speak a few handy Japanese words and phrases before you go. "Isshoni odorimasenka?" is the Japanese way to say "Would you like to dance with me?" Or try "Benjo wa doko desu ka?" (Where's the toilet?).
And at the end of your vacation, pack your bag and bid Maebashi "Sayōnara" (farewell).
