Exceeded Expectations
This was a first visit to Acadia. The location was ideal for everything we had planned. The Visitor center was within an easy drive where we could park and explore the park. With Dory Haven as our base, it provided not only a beautiful place to rest, but was comfortable and above what we expected. The bedrooms were spacious as was the downstairs living area. The porch doubled the space of the house and easily became a favorite for meals. I’m ready to come back.

We were traveling with our teenager and one yr old. The water access gave plenty to do while home and Acadia/ Bar Harbor are close enough we went there several times. A wonderful stay!

Beautiful waterfront property
This was a great place. Very roomy yet a cozy feeling as well. Loved the sun room which had a beautiful dining table, comfortable sofa and rocking chair. My husband and I spent a lot of time in this room. The view of the water was beautiful. This was on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island which is where we love to stay. Highly recommend.

Great stay on MDI
Dory Haven is a great place to stay on MDI. Close enough to everything but far enough away from the high traffic areas. The house is the perfect size for a small family. It is clean and well stocked. The porch overlooking the pond is so nice. Bedrooms and living areas are comfortable and well kept. Mosquitos are bad, especially on hot, humid days down by the water so bring bug spray. Something missing from the listing is that there are room AC units in the bedrooms. I contacted Vacasa to ask if there was AC based on previous comments but they said no so this should be updated for accuracy.

Bar Harbor Getaway
This VRBO was a perfect place to enjoy all the beautiful places in Bar Harbor. The house was clean, beds were comfortable, and all amenities were as listed. We would highly recommend this property!

Relaxing, clean and dog friendly home
We loved our week at Dory Haven, especially the relaxing sunroom with lovely views and bird watching. The home was clean and well stocked with kitchen items. It's in a neighborhood but wooded so feels fairly private. However, there are a few things in the advertisement that are not true-- there is no queen size bed, only a double. The ad lists a cosy gas fireplace that as a fall visitor to Maine, we were looking forward to, but guests are not allowed to use it. There is no heat upstairs, although there are a few small plug in electric heaters supplied. We didn't mind the chill but for some folks that could be challenging in the off season. Overall, we were disappointed by things that were falsely listed in the advertisement, but still enjoyed our time at this sweet home in a lovely location.

Excellent location for exploring Acadia trails. Quaint home on a lovely setting. When there, we spent our time on the fantastic porch that overlooks a pond. Would have rated it a 5-star but the bathroom tile needs replacing or serious grout cleaning. Also the living room rug and one couch have some stains.

The Quiet Side of the Island
This house is on the so-called quiet side of Mount Desert Island, so it's a few more minutes to some of the hot destinations, but nicely away from the crowds in and around Bar Harbor. The house was spotless and had everything we needed. The location on the water, which came in and out with the tide, was beautiful and a great feature. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Dory Haven and highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to get away from busy Bar Harbor to stay in a quiet, relaxing home.

Home Base for Acadia Adventures
Dory Haven is a sweet little cabin with incredible inlet views. The owner is thoughtful, leaving basic amenities, plenty of pots & pans, and even a note for us regarding current wildlife in the area. The home felt very clean, and the sunroom and board games were highlights on a rainy fall day inside. Overall a wonderful home base on the "quiet side" of MDI for us, our infant son, and 2 dogs.

Outstanding rental on the Quiet Side
Our whole family loved Dory Haven. The property is beautiful and right on the tidal pond which was perfect for our kids to explore during low tide. Lots of snails, crabs, and other sea life to see plus birds (we saw a bald eagle!). The sunsets were beautiful and you can pick up some firewood and use the firepit too. The house was immaculately clean. The best room was the first floor porch/sunroom for relaxing, eating meals and just looking out over the water. The bathroom is big and clean. The kitchen was well stocked with everyday cooking needs but we did run out of trash bags, paper towels, and toilet paper so good to bring backups. The bedrooms were both upstairs and felt small since the ceilings slope a lot. We all bumped our heads a few times. There aren’t any curtains that block sunlight on any of the windows so it was noontime bright by 5:45 am each morning. Some blackout curtains would be a nice addition. Dresser space to unpack bags was also a bit limited. When we come back to MDI, this is where we’ll stay. A couple of notes: - only the bedrooms had window air conditioning units. The downstairs could get hot and stuffy so open all those windows for a good breeze. - be prepared with bug spray. Tough to go outside without it on. - make sure that front screen door is kept closed. Bugs found their way in. - the house is at least 15 minutes from nearly everything and a very quiet and peaceful area. Amazing if that’s what you’re looking for. - many restaurants outside of Bar Harbor are closed by 6:30 pm. Prepare accordingly.

With regard to the amount of laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, etc please know that we stock each home with what is called a "starter supply" of basic items. It is not designed to be an unlimited supply but, rather, to get a typical reservation through a weekend or get folks started so that they can enjoy their arrival days, take inventory, and pick up whatever else is needed to get them through their trip. Prior to each stay, we stock dish soap, laundry detergent, a roll of paper towels, toilet paper, a dish brush to wash dishes, a few trash bags, dishwasher detergent, bar soap, and the standard bathroom amenities you might find in a hotel. You were amazing guests, and we cannot wait to host you again.

Acadia done right!
Dory Haven provided us with a base to explore all of Mt. Desert Island and peacefully disconnect from reality. The house sits on a quite cove off a road with minimal traffic. I wouldn't recommend the road for bikes or walking due to traffic speed, but there isn't a ton of volume since you are away from Bar Harbor. The good and greats: House was spotless and had most items you need including towels, games and movies Sunset views on the porch, by the fire pit, or in the hammock were calming and epic. Rocky shore was beautiful with the lake and tree line, but must have water shoes due to mud and small stones. Kids (6&8) loved exploring the shore and chasing crabs. Grill was useful and garage provides secure bike / equipment storage. Kayaks were nice, but only for adults or older kids (only 2 vests). Acadia and Bar Harbor were about 20-30 minutes away which can get a bit tiresome daily Allowed Dogs Beds were Firm which what we prefer. Water pressure was acceptable Laundry worked great. Improvements: Needs more dishes - having only 1 set meant washing for breakfast, then lunch, then dinner. Blinds or some way to cover windows and skylights would be great when sunrise is 445 and sunset is 9 pm. Can be a challenge for younger sleeping kids (and adults) . Internet could be a bit faster as it made taking some video calls a little hit/miss since there is no cell service. Would really have helped to have firewood provided onsite as some properties do.

Nice little place for our family of 4 for the week. We had a minor issue with the washer but it was fixed within 1 day. Property manager communication is great. Our kids said they want to come back. My only thing is the small bed for us adult. We have back issue so and older small mattress was an issue but not a deal breaker. Overall we love this place. Thank you.

The property was great and the listing portrayed it exactly. Everything was clean upon arrival and the location is perfect for getting to everything in Acadia. The kitchen was well stocked. We definitely plan to return! Only issue was the internet was very slow and phone service was pretty minimal.

Ocean cove frontage, good sunsets, could have stayed longer!
Nice cottage with ocean cove frontage, looking west. Great sun room, lovely sunsets. Kitchen cramped but up to date. Irritating lack of head room in bedrooms - I'm not tall, but couldn't sit up in bed and had to mind my head. Got hot in the bedrooms. Lots of bugs, flyscreens throughout. Gas grill adjacent to the garage. Internet soooo slow! Couldn't stream without pauses.

We are definitely coming back!
This is such a lovely home and charming location on Mt Desert Island -- close enough to everything, but tucked away from the crowds (and for us COVID-19). We basically lived on the sun porch! And the cove was perfect for paddle boarding, a new family passion. Wish the dock was functioning, but wasn't a problem getting in at high tide. Appliances, pots and pans are very extensive, as well as film options. Super responsive manager! As first time Homeaway users, we are definitely coming back here and will look for other places to rent on your website.

What an amazing home-base for an amazing Acadia getaway! Everything about this place was incredible. It was so serene and secluded that we would have been perfectly content to stay in the cabin the whole trip. Of course we didn’t, though as the cabin is super close to many of the great “quite side” trails and just a short 20 minute drive to Bar Harbor. The cabin has everything you’d need and the view out the deck can only be described as breathtaking. On our first night there (Valentine’s Day) we saw a shooting star from the skylight in the bedroom. This place is magical!

Impeccable cottage in an idyllic location
We were looking for a quiet location with water views on Mount Desert Island, a family nest and launch point for winter hiking. Dory Haven was immaculate, cozy, quiet, and had a beautiful peaceful cove view. We hiked trails all over the island and it was lovely to return to this quiet, cozy spot when we were done hiking for the day.
