Great time at the RIU

Posted Jan 23, 2015
Except for all the flight delays with US air, we had a wonderful time. The staff were very helpful, the food was exceptional and the hotel and pool were perfect. We would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Health

Pros: I liked how friendly and helpful the staff were.
Cons: Make a designated area for smoking. Play music for the people not the staff to enjoy. Clean the bird dropping off the patio. News pillows
Location: Paradise Island
The food was good 3 days out of 6. I had a problem with the hard pillows I couldn't sleep so I wanted to take a shower and discovered that there was no water threw out the hotel witch lasted all night and half the morning. Then two days later, it happened again no water. So I thought we would go down stairs for a drink, what do we find; guys smoking cigars, women smoking butts witch were not accustom to and should not have to tolerate. The Bahamian music is one thing but most of the music was horrible dirty rap crap. We then decided to go over to the Paradise Island and let me tell you, the music was great and great entertainment also so we spent most of our time there.

Not what expected

Posted Jan 19, 2015
I booked a trip to the Bahamas for my boyfriend and I as a Christmas gift, and figured doing an all inclusive stay would be a great idea. I have to say I was pretty disappointed with the Riu Hotel. Firstly, the hotel shut the water off from about 1am to 7am on Thursday night, so after being out at the casino and Aura club, we were unable to take a shower or even brush our teeth. What kind of hotel shuts the water off- leaving guests without any option? The food was not good at all- so we ended up eating at Atlantis more than expected. Not to mention there really wasn't any variety- the same meal options were put out day after day. The morning we were leaving for the airport, we decided to get breakfast before heading out. The weather was beautiful so we wanted to make sure we took advantage of the outdoor seating. As we walked out, I was told that the outdoor seating was closed- even though there were 2 available tables and about 25 people out there still eating, and it was 10:30am. The waiter told me that the tables needed to be cleaned and there was no one to do it right now. I find this to be HORRIBLE customer service for all the money you pay to stay at this hotel. So we sat inside staring at the ocean, unable to get one last moment of beautiful weather of our 3 day trip. Lastly, the pool is pretty small- and doesn't feel like a typical sized resort pool. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If you have the extra $ you should stay at Atlantis.

The RIU is the best for an all-inclusive visit.

Pros: Value, friendliness and comfort. The beach was just a few steps from the hotel. The pool bar as A-1 in stock and personnel.
Cons: The steak house has to look a bit closer at their menu and food prep. The only real down spot during our stay.
Location: The RIU has all of the amenities we desired. We visited the Atlantis casino one night, a short walk from the front door. We did not leave the site.
We have visited RIU in the past so we pretty much knew what to expect. We were not disappointed. Our room was large, clean and ocean front. As world travelers a few hitches with the hot water were not as bothersome to us as to some of the other guests. The food was very good at the buffet and exceptional at the Krystal Restaurant... order the Chilean Sea Bass, you won't be disappointed. The Japanese Restaurant was so-so, imagine, no chopsticks! The steak house left a lot to be desired. My rib eye came from another part of the steer and was tough as nails. The sides were served in one big server and we had to pick and choose between us. The desert was a rubbery chocolate concoction. The staff at all of the bars were exceptionally courteous and went out of their way to please, as did all of the wait-staff at the restaurants. Our maid service was also exceptional, they kept our mini-bar well stocked and to our specific requests. The RIU was a true value for the money, compared especially to the obnoxious Atlantis next door. We will visit the Riu again in the near future.

Enjoyed it!

Visited for our honeymoon. There was a fair mix of couples vs families vs friend travelers. The staff was awesome! They were friendly and accommodating. The bars were stocked with good drinks and the buffets were good. The hotel itself was okay. It was clean but there was mold in most rooms according to what we heard from other visitors. We had an "ocean view" room which we assumed was beachfront but it literally means you can see the ocean from your room. This was awesome but we could also see the big hotel generator and we could hear it too. However, we could still hear and see the ocean and that was wonderful!! Just be mindful to inquire about this if it truly matters to you. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would recommend the Riu. It was a $12 cab ride to downtown and a 2 minute walk to the Atlantis casino and hotel. If you are very particular about mold I would suggest considering another hotel but that'd be my ONLY concern with Riu.

Place was just ok

Pros: Staff was nice
Cons: mold, upgrade liquer
suppose to have a king size bed and we had a double. we tried 2 other rooms but the mold smell was awful. Next day we were switched to a room that wasn't as moldy but wasn't great. Pool only got 4 hours of sun and the sun blocked by the hotel a good part of the day. Only been to 1 other all inclusive Hard Rock in Can Cun. The food, liqueur, entertainment was much better. The sun was on the pool and beach all day.
